An extremely loyal Walmart customer has been banned from every Walmart store on the planet for life after taking advantage of the store's price-matching policy one too many times.
Walmart prides itself on its promise to match the lowest price of any item in the store if a customer finds it being sold for less somewhere else.
But Joe Cantrell of Arizona says he wound up in handcuffs for trying to ad match some ornaments for his family's Christmas tree.
Cantrell, a disabled former pro wrestler, doesn't make a lot, so he has to make what he has count.
It's for that reason, Cantrell says, that he started flipping through circulars in an effort to find cheap items he could price match at his local Walmart.
Cantrell was on one of his twice-daily visits to the San Tan Valley Walmart — "I just love Walmart and that's why I go," he told KNXV — when a store employee rejected his ad match.
Cantrell complained to store management and was on his way out when the employee decided to phone the Pinal County Sheriff's Office to report that he was being intimidated.
"I was upset, but never once did I say anything to the gentleman," Cantrell insists.
Returning to the store four days later, Cantrell encountered three deputies who promptly handcuffed him before handing him a court summons and a notice informing him he was banned from Walmart for life.
Cantrell began to cry and the deputies agreed to let him go, but he is still required to appear in court to face charges of threatening, intimidation and disorderly conduct.
And his Walmart perma-ban remains in place as well.
Walmart declined ABC15's request for comment.

Stay classy Walmart

I wasn't aware there was a limit to their policy. Why have a price matching policy if you can't use it?

WOW. Makes me think twice about shopping at Wally World.

Yet another reason Sam Walton would be ashamed of this company now.

No surprise there. Walmart, another greedy corporation won't even honor it's own policy because someone was costing them a few dollars here and there every day.

You got to love the corporate bigwigs who make money hand over fist and freak out over a few dollars here and there.

On a side note. If people are going to make new threads on news stories...post the god damn link to the article.

All the words in blue throughout the quote are god damn links to the article. ;)

Wow if they ban their loyal customers who follow their rules then I don't want to see what they do to their casual shoppers.

Not that I'm a huge fan of Wal-Mart at all, but read the fine print on this article. He wasn't banned for the price-match policy at all --- he was banned for physically threatening a sales clerk, pure and simple.

And if anybody gives a crap, there's a long-winded debate in a very obscure rasslin' board dating back almost a decade that claims that this Joe Cantrell, a former California wrestler, has been guilty of every kind of con game under the sun over the years. I won't even post the link unless anybody even gives a rat's ass.

I hate Wally World as much as the next guy, but the bottom line on this story is that a pro con artist probably got exactly what was coming to him after he tried to bully his way through a sales clerk.

BURN IT DOWN!!!!

sorry...just felt like the right thing to say at the time.

Allegedly. We don't have a recording of their conversation, and the only thing Walmart has said about the situation is that one of their employees "felt threatened." That could mean a lot of things. We don't really know anything for sure one way or another. All we do have to go on that's concrete is the store's track record, which is terrible.

You should post the link, because otherwise it's just an anecdote and pretty flimsy as far as any kind of evidence goes.

That assessment is based mostly on Walmart's side of the story. Sorry, but I'm not sure inclined to take them at their word. Show me stronger evidence, maybe a detailed interview with the employee involved, I might change my tune.

Can you really get banned from every Wal Mart store on the planet for life?

I mean, how are they going to know?

Can we just have a single thread for DJ's news item of the day?Or maybe a DJ's news forum?:o

I never really understood the point of price match guarantee. If store A has toy for $50 but store B has that same exact toy for $40, why would you go through the hassle of trying to prove to store A that store B has a cheaper price and buy it for the same exact price when you can simply go to store B and buy the item right there and then?

Store proximity.

By your example, if say Store B was 10 miles further, therefore a 20 mile round trip, you probably spent $2-$3 (car mileage vary) just to get there.

I think at the very least we should stop him from pointing guns at our heads so that we have to always click all of his links.

I do it a lot with Blu-Rays at stores around me using Amazon prices usually since I prefer to pick things up rather than worry about if something happens when they're being shipped.

I think I told this story before. They just built a Walmart by me, and I went in there a month after it opened and it looked like a Walmart that's been there for 20 years. :down

Well most people that will do that are going to Wal-Mart anyway so why would they make two trips when they can make one and get the deal anyway?

 it's refreshing to see someone with common sense.
