There is a fantastic article in the latest Total Film magazine about Kevin McClory's attempt to make a Bond movie in the mid-70's. The film had robotic sharks, a climax on the Statue of Liberty (007 parachutes onto it) and a henchman who, 'made Muhammad Ali look like a ***' (as was written in the script!). It sounds so much better than the 70's Bond movies that did get made. except TSWLM.
Sean Connery was somehow roped into help plan the storyline, and then Len Deighton wrote the script. Then, amazingly, Connery agree to star in the movie - that's right, Connery would have played Bond again in the mid-70's.
Eventually they had to wait ten years and make Never Say Never Again, which sucks.
