Warner Bros. Developing 'Minecraft' Movie

Shows how desperate Hollywood is getting. Minecraft has to be one of the dumbest games ever made. I have no idea why so many people are obsessed with it.

It's going to be the next Battleship I bet.

Pffft next you're gonna tell me they're gonna make a movie about Legos.

Letting people have sheer freedom in a sandbox so they can build whatever comes up in their imagination is dumb? Guess I was dumb enough to build stuff out of LEGOs...

This honestly doesn't surprise me in the least. Normally I would be cynical of yet another named brand being turned into a movie but given how the Lego movie went I'll put money on it WB will ensure there's going to be more to this film than simply brand recognition. If Minecraft follows in the same footsteps as Lego then WB has opened the door for not just further collaborations with toy and gaming brands to be made into animated movie but also open the door for their own more or less dormant animation department. The one thing WB has lacked is animated movies in recents years, Lego, and now Minecraft could kick start a new era of WB animated movies.

I'm....not opposed to this? Honestly, I'm not a fan of Minecraft that much, but if it turns out to be of equal quality like The Lego Movie, I think we're in for a real treat.

Yeah it's clear that this is a reaction to the Lego movie's success.. I can see this being a success though, Minecraft is a great game and has a massive hardcore fanbase that seems like its still growing. This isn't a bad business move at all

Not the same. LEGOs are an actual toy that you can create something real and tangible with.

Minecraft is a game with no real story or point. What do you get or achieve for building different things in the game?

I'm guessing you're a Minecraft fanatic due to how I seemed to have touched a nerve with my previous post.

That may be true, but so far WB is relying on another company's toys to find success in animation movies. Maybe one day WB will make an animated movie using their own ideas. How about a JLA movie?

It is entertaining to create whatever you want to in a game world. Whether it gets you anything tangible or not. I'm not super into it like some, but I can see why people think its fun. Just like it is entertaining to win an online game in Call of Duty. You don't win anything for real, but it is a fun experience.

I enjoy Minecraft every now and then. I don't really get the point of a movie unless they have it be a 'Last man on Earth' type movie. I can just see them getting Matt Damon to start digging up dirt by hand or punching down trees. :p

It's live action.....mother of god.

HOW WILL THIS WORK?

By adding Van Damme to it. Oh god yes. 360 kick that Creeper. :hrt:

Rob McElhenney To Direct "Minecraft" Film

By Garth Franklin Tuesday July 21st 2015 12:04PM
"It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" creator and cast member Rob McElhenney has reportedly been selected to direct the upcoming "Minecraft" film at Warner Bros. Pictures.
"Minecraft" creator Mojang announced the news on their official site, McElhenney replacing Shawn Levy who was previously attached a few months ago. Roy Lee and Jill Messick are attached to produce the film which currently doesn't have a release date.
The game, which deals with about breaking and placing blocks, passed 100 million registered users last year.

Maybe it could be a good idea fusing this thread with the other Minecraft thread... :)

Even if Moose beat me to it, as a minor he doesn't get seniority privileges.

Is this really live action? Either way im way more excited with rob at the helm. Should be interesting

So, apparently this is going to be in live-action?

How is that supposed to work?

I can't tell if this is going to be real or if it's fake news like the Frosty the Snowman movie with Mamoa.

What a strange concept and idea.
