Warner Bros. Digital Division Announces "Static Shock" Live-Action Project

To be fair, only five of those are anywhere past the announcement stage; no footage, no set pictures, just "We're doing an XYZ movie/pilot that may become a show". Marvel may not have as many projects announced, but the ones that are are visibly in production, and they anyway have over five years of audience goodwill to carry them through any rough spots. In terms of their movies, DC is mostly banking this entire slate on one incredibly mixed success, and another film that hasn't even come out yet. Sony tried that with ASM2, and now they're having to back out on a ton of things (no Venom movie, Spidey's being recast, etc.). Even on TV, I think most of the GA just thinks of Arrow and company as "great shows based on DC characters", rather than as part of a brand like AoS or the upcoming Netflix shows.

In other words, if you mean "catching up" in terms of actual accomplishments, that's dubious at best.

Wait, what do you mean by "No a Venom movie, Spidey's being recast". Neither of those things have happened...

I don't think that the market can bear a dozen comic book TV shows.

Smith is fine for Static. His acting is more then decent enough. The kid just gets undue hate on this site for no logical reason. I don't care who his father is an that he's working because of his dad and I don't care about his personal life although I can't imagine who does here but looks wise he'd be a good fit. Yes they can find someone else but Smith is fine and he's also high profile.

That's how I feel about it. People gave him a lot of flak from After Earth, but it wasn't entirely his fault that it failed horribly. I have nothing against him or his pops, but I guess sometimes people love to hate just of spite for no reason. There are plenty of young black actors that could do the role well, but who knows? Maybe he might turn heads around if he does end up playing Static. He could do some wonders for all I know.

This isn't really being developed as a network TV show, right?

More of an online/digital thing.

I don't have a problem with Jaden Smith at all but I'd rather a no name (coughpreferablymecough) or...I dunno just not Jaden Smith. He's got the charisma and all...I just want someone else.

Off topic as ****, but J. Smith should dropout of the spotlight and hone his craft in indie efforts. Would certainly kill the accusations of nepotism (which are more than fair) and would give him a chance to improve as an actor.

I'm not sure if that should really be taken as official confirmation, but if it's true...I don't feel one way or the other about it. I like Static, but am indifferent towards Smith. With any luck, he'll do a great job.

ya that definitely seems like confirmation, we will see though.

Jaden Smith as Static makes sense

Until we hear from the WB via The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, and Variety, Tyler's word means 0.

Remember when Rosenbaum "confirmed" Joaquin Pheonix as Lex?

Ya that's a similar situation for sure but not exactly the same. Phoenix was confirmed as being in talks for Luthor though, it just fell through.

It is very possible that Williams simply read that Static/Jaden rumor from a while ago and believed it

It is not even a little bit different. Rumors for Pheonix mistaken as fact, rumors for Jaden mistaken as fact.

Jaden isn't that bad. That Karate Kid remake was good in my opinion; I think it's a better film than the original. He is a bit annoying in real life it seems. I'll say that.

I actually wouldn't mind WB looking at Shameik Moore for Virgil Hawkins. He's got buzz from that movie Dope coming out of Sundance. The trailers look good too.

hopefully it's an age-appropriate young man. I just hope filming starts this year, so, at the earliest it can premiere early next year.
