2) With his Astonishing X-Men run coming up, will Ellis remain on Thunderbolts for the foreseeable future?
2) No, unfortunately Warren’s final issue of Thunderbolts will be 121. By the way, how good has that book been!

****!! This was one of my favorite Marvel books almost entirely because of Ellis (I found the "old Thunderbolts" to be totally unbearable). Hopefully Deodato Jr. stays on, but I may just drop the book now without Ellis writing.

Ugh...****!

Are you really that surprised?

The man has little to no integrity and cannot write anything good that isn't his own creations.

Just my personal opinion....

:yay:

I really don't get all this love for Ellis's Thunderbolts, it's the same thing every issue.

In fact, he probably couldn't get a handle with the new Norman/Peter Parker relationship, and probably decided (in a very baby tantrum like way) to stop writing the book...

:whatever: :whatever: :whatever:

Uh...Just out of curiosity, but how does Ellis have "little to no integrity"?

Ellis rarely stays in one place for very long; he's always launching new projects while trying to find the time to finish old ones.

The man's a creative genius. I think he's realizing that minis are more his speed, though. That way he can get in, get out and move on to the next thing.

That's unfortunate. Who's writing the SI Thunderbolt tie-ins?

I agree with you that he IS a creative genius, but only with his own creations...

Tansmetropolitan is pure genius, and his recent Black Summer and Doctor Sleepless are great...

But when it comes to other people creations, he has very little or no integrity to past work and cares very little to what went on before him in order to tell "his" story, which is find very disrespectful and I do not like him in that regard, nor like his work when it comes to that.

Of course, this is all just my opinion.

Have you ever heard him talk about why he does those kinds of books (mainstream superhero comics)? If you have, I find it hard to believe you'd still hold onto that opinion. Ellis doesn't give a **** about those books. He does them for the money. He'll literally tell you this if you ask him.

But the thing is, even he did care about those books, why would you get upset with the way he writes them? It's not like he forces his way into the offices and demands to be given a title. Marvel hires him. They know what they're getting into and they don't care.

It's one thing to dislike his work. It's another to judge his integrity by it. Stop being silly.

If he writes those books for "the money" only, then that tells me even more about his "integrity".... or lack thereof.

HAHA. I love how Marvel isn't responsible for the content of their stories AT ALL to you.

Doing things for the money is how things work in the entertainent business. With the money he makes from Thunderbolts, he can afford to pay an artist up front a regular page rate to do a creator owned project. Yeah, that's a lack of integrity right there. :whatever:

I won't disagree with you on how Marvel's bottom line is money, and the fact that his complete disregard for a character's history has to be approved by somebody at Marvel, but you'd think that he could just ONCE use some of the "creative genius" (my words) with respect to what had come before him.

Just my two cents...

And if he doesn't want to, that's a display of character? Please. The man clearly has more integrity than you'll ever have.

You know, this sounds just like another well-known Marvel writer. Lets just say his last name rhymes with "Lendis".

Don't make this a discussion about Bendis here :woot:

In any case, I'm on the fence about his run on Thunderbolts. It was incredibly well dialogued, when the pacing was good, it was very good, but some issues have just been well dialogued disasters as far as pacing. And I'm extremely sensitive to that. I hate "set-up" issues as much as I hate "talking-issues." Don't think I'm an action junky or hate to read, but when the plot doesn't move forward appreciably then I rage.

Actually, Ellis/Bendis parallels are probably appropriate. If I compare Thunderbolts to what is going on now though, it is a great series. The characters really do come alive and you can often just feel the different tension in a given room. I think his Astonishing X-men will be magnificent. I think Deodato needs to always be doing a mainstream ongoing. The man is serious, and his colorist is awesome.

If Ellis feels that he needs to leave Thunderbolts to make AXM as good as it can be then I'm happy that he had so much integrity to not churn out crap on two issues.
