Was Columbia Univ Right To Let Iranian President Speak??

I read on the news that they're protesting his visit.

I thought to myself, do these guys even know why they are protesting him? Or are they simply protesting him because he's a leader from the middle east?

The guy wanted to leave a reef at the 9/11 ground zero site. He had nothing to do with the attacks... why would people be insulted by the idea?

I say yeah why not? Personally I'm more offended when Bush speaks.

If it gives him a platform to basically make himself look ridiculous......I'm all for it

He is the president of a country which openly supports terrorism and wants to destroy the state of Israel....on top of the fact he has stated that the Holocaust did not happen, that it was propaganda started by the West....and its spelled "wreath".....

To answer your questions, no they really don't know why. But then again a huge chuck of people still believe that Iraq had something to do with 9/11, so there you go.

I disagree with Columbia doing this
will there be tazering at this event???

Yes. No one was held at gun point and forced to go. Columbia is a place of education and that is literally a once in a life time educational opportunity for so many of those students. It is for all extensive purposes their chance to live history. Why deprive them of that?

If Adolf Hitler had a speaking event, I would go. Not because I agree with him, not because I like the holocaust, but because it is a once in a life time historical opportunity. No ammount of class time can give these students that kind of experience. I don't see why anyone would care.

In what way do they openly support terrorism?

Israel is keen on destroying the people of other countries. All of a sudden it's wrong for Iran to want to defend it's neighbours?

So Columbia U. should be open to all views??

Dude. The president of Columbia U ripped him to shreds before he even got a chance to speak.

I think it might be a good first step in easing tensions between the US and Iran and that is definitely a good thing. However, if all he's met with is hatred, how will that help anything? I doubt anyone protesting knows anything more about Iran other than our government constantly saying they're evil and we all know how well this adminstration has been judging people.

They are a public supporter of Hamas....which is one of the worlds premier terrorist/political organizations.....

Israel defends itself, because for some reason, Muslim nations seem to have a problem with a Jewish state....

Claiming that the Holocaust didn't happen, while extremely distasteful and ignorant of history, is not illegal in U.S.

The U.S. helped trained Bin Laden and his merry band of men during the 80's with their fight against the Soviets in Afghanistan, the U.S. supported the overthrow of Central American governments by brutal revolutionaries that ended up worse than the governments they overthrew, the U.S. also supported Saddam's regime in the 80's when they were fighting Iran and said nothing when he used chemical weapons against the Kurds in the 80s, and at the same time the U.S. had the Iran-Contra affair going on.

So Columbia U. should be open to all views??

Thats what America is all about, right? Or is it "Freedom of speech as long as we agree with you?"

This is like saying "Should the KKK be allowed to march?" or "Should a skin head meeting be allowed to take place?"

Sure, it sounds horrible, but it is literally the very principal our country was founded on. Besides, it is not like this is a mandatory event. No one is holding guns to students heads and saying "You must go!"

If you don't want to hear him, simply don't show up. But again, it would be horrible to turn down such an educational experience.

Someone said Univerities exist to discover the truth....whatever that may be...
