Ok first of all I loved the movie! I have just been reading alot of posts about what people didn't like and alot of it is about the comedy. I myself loved some and I mean just some of the comedy but it seemed almost like a freaking summer comedy for a moment. Bernie Mac in it was actually funnier then I thought he would be and that was acceptable. The movie had some great comedy moments and all of them were funny but should they have been in a Transformers movie? I don't know what has happened to a good serious action flick, I remember watching action movies or sci-Fi movies and they didn't have comedy in them and in my opinion it made them better. X-Men movies come to mind, very little humor and that is what set the serious tone. Does comedy hurt a movie for you or make it better, remember some of it was real cheesy comedy.

There was definitely too much. The entire first half of the Movie was like a Teen comedy, as someone pointed out. Which wasn't all too bad because it was really solid and Shia is a great actor. Then we have the Autobots who were just hilarious to watch and listen to. And Frenzy was all kinds of crazy.

Bernie Mac as the car seller and Anthony Anderson as the nerdy hacker also added to the comic relief. And not to forget John Turturro who ran Sector 7, as if we didn't already have enough comic relief, him added was total overkill.

The only serious part during the entire Movie were the military and the final battle in the city.

I agree they should have cut John Turturro completely out of the movie.

I could have done w/o the long scene of the Autobots hiding around Sam's house. It went on entirely too long. Some peopel thought it was hilarious....not I.

The only Autobot-related funny part with that scene was when they transformed into vehicles and just stayed there.

And Turtorro was the least of the film's problems.

One over-the-top performance done with an obvious twinkle in the eye VS Autobots/Decepticons being soulless tools. :whatever:

SOME of the humor was perfect... like the Bumblebee and Sam interaction, the car dealership, the radio thing, Sam being chased by Bumblebee, etc etc. Almost everything delivered by Shia was believable.

The house backyard/masterbation scene wasn't all bad except it dragged on waaaayyy too long. When Sam said "that's not being in disguise" when the bots were innocently all vehicles in his backyard was hilarious. Perfect. But then I expected to see them driving around the block complaining or something.... not the ******ed scene that could have been in Airplaine! or Epic Movie or some crap.

For me the movie ended with the "zany" Crackhead Frenzy infiltration scenes. At that point I knew the filmmakers set out to make something worse than the source material called for.

In other words, they kept taking stuff too far. I expected charming humor... but I wasn't expecting Transformers to be zany.

That is basically my problem with directors like Bay, Emmerich, Sommers, etc. They don´t know when it´s the time to take things seriously. There´s nothing wrong with fun and humor and action, but they take it to overkill, their need to entertain is so desperate that it becomes annoying, they have no confidence in just telling the story and let the humor and fun come naturally out of it, they don´t believe the audience has any patience, and it has been proven a number of times that it does. You can go dramatic when the story asks for it, you can even go dark when the story asks for it, you can slow it down and let it breathe, and people can take it. Sure, people will say, "it´s giant robots, for Chrissakes". Well, The Iron Giant is about a giant robot, and it´s as fun and entertaining as it´s a compelling story and characters.

I completely agree. I damn near choked on my sprite when BB took a piss on John Turturro.

No, it was not. It was perfect.

That's why it such a great movie.

Exacly how Transformers should have been done..great flick, it was so sad when he flew up in the sky to stop the missle. I think peter jackson should have wrote / directed Transformers.

The comedy was spot on. It seems that most fans of comic/cartoon to films hate to laugh too much. I actually thought it was just right. It didnt come off as too serious and that made the movie fun. Seeing this movie was fun at the theater, thats something i cant say about spidey and some other comic to film movies. They try to be too serious.

I guess the problem with that is that it's tricky... and can easily miss the mark (SM3, for instance tho I don't hate SM3). So why not just go BALLS-OUT DUMB like they did with Transformers and just throw in senseless action on top of it to thrill the audience? Bay, Emmerich, etc discovered the perfect boy-band formula of movies a long time ago.

I had plenty of fun with the first two Spidey movies and being serious only made the experience better, made me feel for the character, follow the journey. The third one had problems, but had nothing to do with being too serious IMO.

It´s not a matter of not liking to laugh, I love to laugh, but I hate it when comedy is forced into situations that aren´t funny. Imagine Peter throwing a joke as he chased the man who killed uncle Ben. That would have killed the moment. There´s hothing wrong with being serious and dramatic when the story calls for it. Being entertained isn´t just about laughing. Don´t tell me there´s nothing serious about the premise of TF, The Iron Giant was about a kid and a giant robot and it had the right amount of seriousness and "pure fun".

Perhaps in the beginning, I thought it was too much but as the movie went on it began to balance itself out.

I apprechiated the comedy though, it kept me entertained whenever the Autobots and/or Decepticons were not on screen.

Editing could fix SO many things about this movie. That's what I'm going to try and do once the movie comes out on dvd. Some parts that are definitely not making my cut:

John Tuturro
The hackers
cutting the "hiding Autobots" scene in half

amongst others.

[BLACKOUT]I'm also going to attempt to edit out the Linkin Park song at the end and put in the Lion theme song...but that's just for fun :woot:[/BLACKOUT]

I'd try to fix other things. Or copy scenes to make everyone happy ;) You know , copy a scene and overlap it with dialogue.

I'd cut the scene in the house in half. And ofcourse try to add the classic Transforming sound hehe. Thats ONE thing I really MISSED in this movie. You could only hear it during the Blackout / Nokia and Ironhide doing a summersault on the street scenes.

That is something that could EASILY be added for the dvd release...but I doubt that they'll go through the effort.

Dude, that would make the Zany Frenzy scenes bearable. It's a shame because I like the "house" scene for the most part. But it just dragged on and became like something out of a Robot Chicken skit with the 'hiding' part. Later on I fully expected Bumblebee to be disgnosed with prostate cancer in that sector 7 scene when he was laying down being experimented on.

but those a 2 different movies trying to tell 2 different things. For the spidey script and what they wanted to do it was more serious. folks who did transformers wanted another effect. cant please everyone, i liked transformers than any of the spider films. I had fun watching transformers and I was bored with it. Spidey on the other hand....whatever. Different people enjoy different things in a movie.

In my opinion, the comedy WAS a bit too much at times! imo, that Frenchy robot was laying it on too thick! Could he just SHUT UP I wouldn't have mind him... disturbing images of Jar-Jar Binks kept popping up every time he was on screen! allthough he wasn't quite as bad thankfully.

Also, there was too much LAME humor with that Glen guy!!! You know, the ONLY hacker in the ENTIRE world that can brake the code!!! (please, that was just stupid!).

Sequences like when the four autobots arrive to earth was so incredibly beautiful and moving that I was almost moved to tears! That sequence symbolized what the entire movie should've been like!!! I really dont mind the biggest part of the humor in this film, I dont... but seeing the arrival of the four other autobots sequence, and how it was displayed on screen (now seen it three times!), it made me realize that if the whole movie had had THAT feel, it could've been ten times as great! and I really really like it as it is, dont get me wrong. But the emidietly humor which followed that sequence was a bit over the top in places...

also the bumblebee peeing all over the sector-7 guy, whom I ALSO thought was a bit too comedic for his own good, was too much.

Regarding the humor, there was quite a bit I would've done differently, had it been me in the directors chair... Granted this is Transformers we're talking about, so humor was DEFINITLY in place... But there's humor, and then there's HUMOR!... and this here was HUMOR.

From what I've read in this thread and many others, it just seems like anything in the movie that didn't have to do with the action scenes needed to be cut....

blah blah, cut the hackers, cut sector 7, cut the glasses...WTF?
