Was the real Lone Ranger African American?

That was a very interesting read! thanks for posting, I would never have known this. I agree it does look like he was the inspiration for the character. The similarities are too strong for it to simply be a coincidence

Interesting. I also wonder if this historical figure was also the inspiration behind Woody Strode's character in The Professionals.

Huh, nice find.

That was a interesting article. Bass Reeves the man, the Marshal, and his story sounds great.

I'm curious though as to how much the mysticism around his legend is based on actual historical fact rather than romanticizing a black person in the US.

Even if the Lone Ranger was inspired by Bass Reeve, the Lone Ranger is still a work of fiction and a white guy. The real Lone Ranger was no more African American than Superman or Batman.

We need to hear more stories like this of America's great history, especially in a time of low pride in our country.

we got the lone ranger...hi hooooo silver. Makes me wanna go see the movie now.

I read that this morning. It's a good case for him to be the inspiration but without more facts and details on the history of the Lone Ranger story it's hard to really say if it was taken from Reeve's life.

Either way his career does sound movie-worthy in its own right.

They really should make a movie about this guy.

Everyone here should go see The Professionals. I'm dead certain one of the major characters from that movie is based on Reeves, they are too similar.

If he was African American he would have been called the Long Ranger...
