Washington Post Article on Marvel and DC

excellent article.

Very well researched and written for the most part.

The best line is easily:

"Imagine two churches across the street from each another, only the congregants keep running back and forth on the rumors of better Scripture."

:D

Good article, although it leaned a little heavily with the 'Marvel is a rebel' and 'DC is square'-stance.

Wow, a mainstream article about comics that wasn't ******ed. Cool.

It was a good article, but it sucks that Marvel gives off that were dark vibe to everyone.

Bendis had his own boards? I bet he don't visit often.

Great article. And very accurate in its descriptions of fan mentality and persona in regards to the 70's and 80's imo...

"your kid brother, wacked out on pop tarts, screaming to watch Super Friends"...

"your older sister's boyfriend, draws you a picture of the Hulk, and introduces you to Ghost Rider and Silver Surfer"...

Both those guys were ME, at different times of my life, lol.

Anyway, i was never aware of the fact that Marvel almost bought DC at one time...that would have been interesting.

minus Superman and Batman.

That would have been a very weird world indeed, wouldn't it have?

*thinks about what if Stan Lee created the DC Universe and shudders*

those books were a "re-imagining" of the DC characters, not reflective of what Marvel might have done if they'd actually aquired the characters.

Besides, they said it was in the 70s, by which time Stan had retired from active writing duty

*still shuddering*

DC is windows Marvel is Mac? Are they saying Marvel is gay?

The article seemed heavily skewed towards Marvel, I thought. Other than that it was all right.

Wow. A REALLY great article. Man, it's about time the comic book industry got some good press. Though I wish that they would have focused more on each companies adult titles more, like DC's Vertigo with 100 Bullets and Y The Last Man, etc. And Marvel's Punisher and Supreme Power.

I didn't think that the article leaned toward anybody. I thought it was a very fair representation. And the writer, I believe, was comparing the companies when Marvel was rising up in the 60's.

He did say that these days the two companies have drastically changed but DC keeps their world in a more ficitional environment where as Marvel is usually taking place in the real world, example...New York.

The ending of the article was nice. Though I don't see it as a new "Golden Age", but it's definitely a really great time to be reading comic books.

Many would argue they're saying ythat about DC. ;P

No, Windows just sucks. Macs are trendy right now, and trendy always equals gay.

Great article.I agree with their differentiation between the big 2.One being highly steeped in fantasy, with the other being the more grounded and affected by the real world.Nothing wrong with either of those 2.

Good deal

Now I can throw this at folks that think it's wack to be into comics

Good articule, guy has a good grasp how Marvel and DC differ.

the guy got the mac/windows thing messed up.
DC is more like a Mac to me.
