The Fall.

This thread is to let other posters now about a movie you think most of us haven't either seen, or even ever heard of. So let us know about it so we can see it. It doens't hurt to tell us why you loved it so much either.

But anyway, mine would be "The Fall." If you can watch it on blu-ray, do it! This is a gorgous film. What's really amazing is there are no special effects, everything is filmed on location, and I'm telling you that you won't believe me when you watch this film. It also has some of the best acting I've ever seen, and a great story. This is one of those few films that actually made me cry. And when Roger Ebert says this may be the best film he has EVER seen, you might want to check it out.

Oh and if you get a chance check out "Dear Frankie." It's got Gerard Butler. Also very good.

I LOVED this movie! I think there might be a thread around here from a ways back, but I don't think it had very much response anyways. But yeah, I totally recommend seeing this film as well.

If Ebert really gave it that kind of review I should probably take a look at this. I just nve rknew what it was about.

i loved it.. except the ending a little

but the cinematography/costumes was beyond top notch (as always from this director)... should've been nominated

You guys know you can recommend movies too right? :D

outdated vfx... but great concept (stephen king)

I watched this last night, and it is amazing! It is less than 50 mins, but it is great no less. I loved everything about it

I actually have Joyeux Noel coming to me from my Netflix que tomorrow!!!

Glad to see it get some love in here before I see it

That story has always fascinated me in history discussions.

Stephen King actually had nothing to do with the concept. He had a short story called Lawnmower Man but it has absolutely nothing to do with the film. I believe Stephen King even sued the film makers for sticking his name on the film just to sell the movie when it had nothing to do with his original story, which is why it's not on that DVD cover. I did like the film though.

One film I'll recommend is Cube.

cube_ver3.jpg

A group of people wake up in a giant cube filled with deadly traps. They have no idea what the cube is or why they were put in there. They have to find a way to avoid the traps and make it out alive.

It's a very simple concept but the execution is very compelling. A lot of focus is put on the characters and their flaws and the story ends up being more about their personal shortcomings deciding their fates rather then the traps.

I have never seen or heard of this film, but somehow I instantly knew it was a Tarsem-directed film.

Will check it out. Thanks!

If the Tron: Legacy thread has shown me anything is that a lot of people haven't seen the original Tron.

So heres my recommendation:

Great movie!

You ever seen Cube Zero? Man that movie sucked. I never got around to seeing Cube2 though.

My pick for the best movie of 2006

Out of the Blue is a true story brought to the big screen. I recall the news broadcasts of the event back then and it was a little weird for me, knowing the way it was going to end. Even so, I got to the end of this thing and just sat there in stunned silence a good 10 seconds into the credits.

Quite chilling.

I'm gonna recommend Lifeforce. Its a 1985 British-American Sci-Fi B movie by director Toby Hooper (Poltergeist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Salem's Lot).

Its about Alien Space Vampires that drain peoples Lifeforce turing them into Zombies. A trench wearing Cop and a American Astronaut run around London filled wih vampire zombies with a lead sword trying to kill the Vampire queen who spends half the movie naked.

Also Patrick Stewart is in the movie where he gets pimp handed after being possesed.
Special effects are very 80s (think Ghostbusters) which I kind of like. Its a fun Sci-Fi B-movie.

Hi,

maybe you would sell this movie better by saying Mathilda May ( french actress ) nude :)

Good recommendation

I hated Cube 2, though. Never saw Cube: Zero. But, this film is awesome!

Parker Posey is mesmerizing , funny , and scary at the same time in this movie.. Also alot of interesting dialogue but I loved this...

Lesly: Boy, it's been a long day.
Jackie-O: Not as long as yesterday. Yesterday was 24 whole hours.

What exactly is The Fall about? I remember seeing the trailer quite a while ago and it looked incredibly weird. I really liked The Cell and I think I might want to finally check this film out.

The Lawnmower Man

outdated vfx... but great concept (stephen king)

I watched this for the first time in years about two months ago. The effects are very outdated but I can still enjoy it. Jeff Fahey was pretty damn good in it, especially since he didn't go full ******. As someone had already mentioned, this film is entirely different from Stephen King's short story. The one and only thing similar is when that abusive father is killed by the lawnmower. It's mentioned in the book but everything else is way different. Although I enjoy both versions, King's story would most likely never work as a film, even a short like when that TV miniseries "Nightmares and Dreamscapes" was on for a week.

As for a recommendation. When I got into George Romer's zombie trilogy in middle school, I loved them so much I started checking out his other films. Along with The Crazies, this film was one of the earlier ones he made.

If you liked Let the Right One In I highly recomment this film. They're not exactly the same but much like LtROI, it is a refreshing and different take on Vampires, or in this case Vampirism. Probably my favorite Romero film right after his zombie trilogy(Land of the Dead was just ok but not as great as the previous three).

A great movie i would recommend to anyone is 'Stander'. Tom Jane playing the lead in a real life story about a South African cop who gets disillusioned with the corrupt system and becomes a bank robber.

People seem to either passionately hate it or love it. I loved it, it's a little gem. A strange movie but very much worthwhile. Amazing acting.
