Patrick Wilson Ponders ‘Watchmen’ Sequel: ‘It’s Been Talked About’

Published by Rick Marshall on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 12:42 pm.

These days, it isn’t a blockbuster unless there’s talk of a sequel — especially when it comes to films based on comic books. Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man” sequels are a pretty sure bet, but what about the talk of a sequel (or possibly prequel) to one-and-done stories like “300”? Heck, could “Watchmen” become a franchise?

MTV News recently spoke to actor Patrick Wilson, who plays Nite Owl in the much-anticipated adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ graphic novel, and asked him to weigh in on the film’s sequel potential.

“It’s all been talked about,” laughed Wilson. “Financially, they like to do that. But all of us, [director] Zack [Snyder] included, all go, ‘How on Earth could you do a sequel or prequel?’”

While Wilson acknowledged the presence of a clause in his contract that allowed for sequels, he was quick to add that these types of arrangements are standard fare these days, citing their presence (and even more unlikely use) in Snyder’s previous blockbuster adaptation, “300.”

“Even the guys from ‘300’ might have had a sequel,” said Wilson. “It’s the most ridiculous option. It’s sort of a financial way to protect the studio, and I would do the same thing.”

But could “Watchmen” ever have a sequel — and furthermore, would he want to be in it?

“Certainly, artistically, I can’t fathom how it would happen,” said Wilson. “But hey, if Alan Moore writes it, I’d love to read it.”

No.
There should not be any prequel or sequel to Watchmen.

Heh. I jokingly suggested this once, at another forum.. it was gonna be based on Rorschach's journal, of course..

Sequel..................? To WatchMen..............?!?!?!?!?!

F*** NO!!!!!!!

If they spilt the story into two parts it'd make sense, but not a sequel. That's just silly.

Now that I could severly appreciate; if they can split it in two parts and get everything in I'd be very satisfied. But yeah, a sequel to WatchMen??!?!?! That's like having a sequel to V For Vendetta Schindler's List.

I wanted that, actually. Two 2 hour movies made.

Im sorry for going off topic, but have they mentioned anything about length?

I think Zack mentioned it currently running at 2 hours, 40 minutes and the studio wanting to cut just ten more minutes off.

................... It's about time us Minute Men start taking action and demand for more screen time.

Perhaps. In any case we'll get a 3-4 hour Director's Cut DVD a few months after the DVD comes out.

I really hope for that :woot:

While length shouldn't be the core of attention, but rather the movie itself, im really just seeing how large the novel is and if 2:30 screen time is enough to cover it thoroughly. I was expecting around 2:50-3:30.
It's been too long since Apocolypse Now and Gettysburg, we need another caffeine-required trip to the movies!

I think our chances are better if we got at least a 3 to 3 n' half hours for the theatrical release; if it wasn't for that goddamn Fox and Hollywood I wouldn't be worrying about this in the first place. :cmad:

I seem to recall him pretty much guaranteeing one because he knows the fans want to see what he really intended for Watchmen.

What were the LOTR films? A leisurely walk? My ass hurts so bad by the time I'm done watching one of those. I love them, though.

no, i don't even think alan moore would write a sequel, just so it can adapted on film

Well, ok I forgot to mention LOTR :oldrazz:

They should still do intermissions for long movies, imo.

kk, getting off topic.
No sequel!

I love LOTR too; and with that said and me loving WatchMen, I'd sit on my ass for 6 hours watching the movie if they include everything and perfect it. :word:

Ya know they should have intermissions; give em' like half an' hour to go the bathroom, get drinks and such, and maybe play a few more spots or WatchMen journals on the wait.
