Remember when Batman Begins was released, Bale, always spoke in an American accent during interviews? How come now he's speaking in his real British accent?

As I recall, it was Bale's personal decision to do his interviews in this manner. Didn't want to alienate American audiences from their beloved icon.

I'm starting to question if thats true or not.

I think it's just trying to keep in-character. I heard he did a similar thing when he worked on American Psycho.

Bale mentioned in an interview that voice work is very difficult to keep up, and that he speaks his in-character accent as often as possible so he doesn't "lose it," so to speak.

Actually, Drexx is correct. I recall either hearing or reading an interview where he himself said it was a personal decision to speak "american" during any sort of publicity events, out of respect for Batman being an "American icon"..

Or it could be that he's a method actor.
Look it up

I doubt Bale take his role as Batman that seriously. In a recent interview he said that he acknowledges that its a "cartoon" character.

Interesting

So, what happened at the Chicago press conference?

Does it really matter?

No, not really.

He said that was of his own choice. He didn't want audiences to get confused when they saw the movie, with Watyne being an American, and then seeing him on Letterman and such speaking his native tongue.

Yip, thats the reason, I would that second time round he is more familiar with both characters and probably feels happier slipping back into his own accent.

Bale's British accent is crazy! :o

So why would WB *force* Bale to do an american voice for PR interviews for Begins, but allow him to do his natural voice for PR interviews for the sequel? Doesn't make any sense.

I knew he was born is Wales, but I thought he must have moved to the States when he was younger and lost the accent, but alas no. Seems odd.

i think he just gets used to doing an accent. when he made American Psycho, none of the crew knew he was british until the rap party and they thought he was doing a fake british accent at first.

I remember him saying that it was to avoid confusing audiences. He didn't want people to see him on a talk show and say "wait.. a British guy is playing Batman?!!"

Now that everyone's seen Batman Begins, they dont have to worry about that. People know Bale can play American, so he doesn't have to worry about it.

Hes british and he has a accent? Wow, I never knew that. That kinda makes me mad that he has a accent for some wierd reason

Hugh Laurie who plays House does the same thing. His British but he does an american accent most of the time as not to lose it.

Basically some people are stupid and can't get their heads around the fact some can do more than one accent. I think some people would probabley be xenophobic to the fact he wasn't american.

Bale takes every role seriously to an insane degree.

this guy looks like a troll to me.

You misunderstood what I said.

I was questioning the logic of Call Me Darkman in saying WB forced Bale to do american accent for his interviews for one movie, but not for the sequel.

I was not disputing what Bale was doing at all, and why he was doing it.

Understand now?

Maybe when you are used to doing a certain voice for 7 months it kinda sticks for a little while until you go back to your native land. When i was 7 i moved to England for 2 years and came back to the U.S with a british accent but then I lost it.

yeah i remember him saying the same thing.

i think perhaps Bale learned from the fiasco leading up to American Psycho. one of the criticisms about him was that he was British :whatever:, the logic back then was that its such a controversial project that needs a more bankable actor who should also be American-- hence Leonardo di Caprio. and as the saying goes, the rest is history.

i remember an interview from Bale shortly after that project that he wanted to raise his game. i guess the doubts on his ability to carry a project kinda hit a little close to home. guess this explains why he's amenable to big projects like Batman and even JLA.
