Warner Bros. has picked up the rights to Five Nights at Freddy’s, the popular video game series created by Scott Cawthon.

The feature adaptation will be produced by Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment as well as Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions.

The game takes place in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a darker version of Chuck-E-Cheese, where an animatronic animal band performs kiddy songs by day, and goes on murderous rampages by night. The goal of the game is survive a night locked inside, knowing that a furry death machine might jump out of the dark at any moment.

“We’re looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie,” said Grahame-Smith.

"The story really lends itself to being a movie and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to," said Cawthon.

The project is currently out to writers.

Adam Stone and Jay Ireland will exec produce. Jon Berg and Nik Mavinkurve are overseeing for Warners.

Lee was a producer on Warners’ Liam Neeson action thriller Run All Night and has the Poltergeist remake due to open May 22. Grahame-Smith and Katzenberg, meanwhile, are developing a Beetlejuice sequel.

The trio are producing Cary Fukunaga’s adaptation of the seminal Stephen King novel It, which is eyeing a summer shooting start.

Knew that was gonna happen. Game is huge. My 10 year old cousins and friends kids are obsessed with it. If they are not playing it they are watching youtube reactions.

Easy money for WB.

I'm not much of a game guy outside of ones with Link or Batman, but I love the TVTropes pages for these games. So the movie sounds exciting.

They better start shooting fast before the popularity dies down.

Such an easy cash grab. This thing is gonna get fast tracked for sure.

Made correctly it could be this gens Killer Klowns but they will **** it up. The idea is fun but I never really dug the game itself. Just made me want to play some Night Trap :woot:

The movie could be much better than the game. In my opinion, the concept is more suited for a film anyway.
The game itself is hardly a "game"

Agreed. I'll be surprised if they take their time with this to get it right though.

It's a pretty easy concept to do. Animatronics can actually be built with CG enhancements. Make the first part of the film the flashback portion, then move on to the last hour as the climax inside the restaurant for the whole week. During the day the guard is trying to piece together clues and ****, and has to go back every night to work.

I'm a huge fan of the games! this really gives them the chance to dive deep into the FNAF lore. :D this going to be scary as ****!

The only question now is..... Are you ready for Freddy?

Never played the games, but seen YouTube videos. This could be a really fun dark mirror of Night at the Museum. Count me in.

I'm excited for this. I'll probably be let down, but if they at least manage to bring the animatronics to life, I'll be happy.

Never heard of this game.

If I was 10 years old I'd probably be obsessed with this game. Not quite sure how you make a film out of it though.

So I watched the trailers and some vids for all 3 games last night and can't help but think how much of a moron you'd have to be to allow these animatrons to get you. I mean, keep the doors locked, stay dressed as one of them all night, etc. I like the idea behind it, but the execution could be a lot better.

In the game, it takes power to keep the doors closed. For some reason.

The place you work is a cheap, cheap place.

This is a great accomplishment for the creator. He made a game, took a lot of criticism about it, namely the lifeless look of his humans. But instead of being down he too that criticism and made "Five Nights at Freddy's", that took advantage of the lifeless look. Now he has a Hollywood deal.

This is amazing. I read the actual game took about 5ish dollars to make. Good for him! :yay:

I want an exploration into the meaning of being a fazbear.
