The Dark Knight WB to go with new marketing plan

Nah, I'm still uneasy about the looks, but Ledger's bits on the trailer (putting his head on the window car like a dog, the funny face when firing that cannon-like gun, the laugh, the delivery ("comissioner...")), all that sold me the character.

In fact, it would even be cool to see as little Joker as possible for now until the movie's debut. I wanna be surprised. Just like the pre-internet days, when we would walk into a movie without the faintest idea of what it was going to be.

And yep, I'm an old fart who saw Star Wars on the opening day without even seeing a still of the film.:boba:

Star Wars opening day? Wow, how old are you?

Yeah, he was 52 when he won that Oscar for Driving Miss Daisy, but he had a pretty solid, if not prominent, career before that.

And he was Count Dracula on THE ELECTRIC COMPANY, who can forget that? :brucebat:

What in the hell was that?:woot::funny:

"After several independent films, Ledger moved to Los Angeles at age 19 and starred opposite Julia Stiles in 10 Things I Hate About You. Offers for other teen flicks soon came his way, but Ledger turned them down, preferring to remain idle than sign on for projects he didn't like.
"It wasn't a hard decision for me," Ledger told the Associated Press in 2001. "It was hard for everyone else around me to understand. Agents were like, 'You're crazy,' my parents were like, 'Come on, you have to eat.'
"

So it was a personal choice from ledger good on him for staying true to projects he likes but i would have done what a lot of actors do nowadays (george cloony for example) the big budget film to finance and/or inhance his profile so the independent interesting stuff i like can be made (oceans 11,12,13, good night and good luck).

George Clooney only became REALLY a movie star during his stint at ER, when he was pushing 30's. Before that his only cinematographic opuses were Return of the Killer Tomatoes!, Return to Horror High and Knights of the Kitchen Table.

In fact, if we see Clooney's body of work pre-ER, we can sum it up as "pathetic". C'mon, "Predator: The Concert", a sequel to "Grizzly"? I have a dupe copy, it was so bad it remains unreleased to this day - and the all star cast includes Laura Dern, Louise Fletched and an Oscar-worthy Charlie Sheen!

How can you compare Clooney to Ledger? Clooney became household name through TV and he parlayed that fame to movies, which he parlayed into financing movies... Apples and oranges in my opinion...

AND Clooney was older than Ledger when he got to that position.

And Ledger fans can look at his IMDb resumé and see no traces of crappy crap and...
...well, he made PAWS, but he was a kid at the time.

Casanova, brothers grimm, 10 things the order ect are imo are average films at best lets be realistic ledger had few great, widely known movies before brokeback and TDK theres no shame in it just a reality the way some people are bashing the likes of cloony to make them feel better over heath is immature. cloony is older yes but he is a good actor who straddles the line of blockbuster popcorn movies like the ocean films and respected more intellectual movies like syrianna and good night and good luck same wih Depp he will do POTC or edward scissors hands and then also do more independent type films like finding neverland, Blow, fear and loathing ect.

Oh.

Well, he has a family, he likes to eat and stuff. Do you know that he lives in France? Things are expensive in France.

Ledger was excellent in Lords of Dogtown and admirable in The Order.

I think he could have been the Johnny Depp of this generation at least if he had lived. He was viewed as a hunky heartthrob early on in his career just like Depp. He also chose risky roles to break free of this Hollywood induced stereotype, just like Mr. Depp as well. He also chose not to reside in Hollywood or act like your typical Hollywood A-List actor, choosing a more humble philosophy just like Johnny Depp as well.

I agree with this assesment. I would compare his career to Depp.

Taking on different and challenging roles and not the pretty boy teeny bopper roles. He was well on his way to being possibly the next Depp careerwise.

they updated the official site: under the bat symbol it says: view trailer. But the biggest noticeable difference is that...drum roll.......the joker poster that was on the video page is....Gone.

Actors such as jake gylynhaal, edward norton and matt damon (which is the kind of brackett of acting i feel heath is in) all had a resume of great films under thier belts by age 25-30. 28 may not be the "midpoint" of ledgers promising career but actors start very young by 28 you would expect him to have more recognised movies imo.

if most of you are honest before TDK all you knew from heath was Brokeback and maybe 10 things and knights tale (which are fun to watch but hardly groundbreaking movies) so to say as someone stated his "amazing" career is a bit of an overstatement ill say promising career instead.

how many of those guys had an oscar nom by age 26? ledger (as im sure you may know) avoided fame and did his best to take his time. he was in a few iffy movies but was usually the best thing about them.

but the real question is: what do you have against heath ledger? just give it a rest. ledger was a druggie. ledger's career sucked. blah blah blah. do you anything to add to the board?

no? didint think so.

It's been missing that image since the memorial page was put up - the icon that says "VIEW TRAILER" is indeed a new addition, though.

Actually it's been missing that image since before the memorial was put up. They were on top of it pretty soon after the news came out and replaced the WSS image with the Bat logo picture on the trailer page. And then later on they eventually added the memorial page.

:whatever: God your still getting angry over perfectly valid arguments that offend your ledger sensitivities? grow up.

Go back a few pages and READ my comments are a natural progression from the conversations earlier on

A oscar nom is a great achievement but the plain facts are that Ledgers career wasnt as "amazing" as someone here has mentioned some people just cant face the truth Brokeback was his breakout role and TDK would have made him a true A lister but his former resume, wether its by his own choice or not, wasnt great. like i said grow up or better yet just ignore all the posts you dont like if your that sensitive.

So is it true they are pulling some advertising showing ledger as joker because of the death? i hope not i would think he would have wanted the full shebang of promotion to make TDK as successful as possible.

Heath was A-list after Brokeback. That film had drawn hysteria like crazy and everyone knew Heath's name after it.

He did not win an Academy Award for his performance in Driving Miss Daisy (Lead Actor category); He won a Supporting Actor Oscar for Million Dollar Baby.

Yes but on a world wide scale BB was still just known as the gay cowboy thing that wasnt watched by a lot of people who didnt agree with the subject matter. TDK was the wide rangeing film to truely rocket him up the ladder imo.

Brokeback Mountain got a lot of that same response in the US. Still didn't stop Ledger from being praised for his performance, thus proving his star power. The fact he received heaps of praise in spite of the negative reaction to the subject matter.
