so, last night we went to this concert at the expo feria (this very traditional local fair that comes to town every summer with circus, rides, adult themed burlesque shows and mainstream artist) with a buttload of local bands, cuz we were called to play there by the organizer
but turns out that it was a local battle of the bands thingie, which we didn't know about until we were there with our stuff (Varzovia has a very strict "no contests" rule), so we said "aww, **** it!!!, we're doing this for fun"
and fun we did have while playing, a really cool stage with lights and all, excellent soundsystem, etc
it was all fun and games and hanging out with our friends from other bands, you know how this all works
by the time the last band had finished (honestly, there were very few actually interesting acts there) the host of the whole show said there was a tiie for first place, between us (Varzovia) and another band who happens to be really great friends of ours (G-ronimo, http://www.myspace.com/gronimo) and both bands had to go onstge and play for a tie breaker set
so we played and they played, but alas, there was a little detail: the contest was open to everybody ages 17 to 26, and we obviously pass the age limit a little bit (everybody in the band is 30, except the singer, she's 26) so after both bands played, the organizers tell us that we're automatically disqualified for this, we didn't know about it
so the first place went to G-ronimo and the second place to the band that was in third place
a lot of people were outraged by this, but well, life works in mysterious ways... later in the evening, after it all had ended, we were told by a friend that precisely when we were playing our tie breaker set, somebody from one of the bands that actually wasn't even near the first three places went to the organizers and jurors to point the age thing out
it was kind of a bummer, but at the same time, we really couldn't care less, this is really not stopping us from from making music, recording our own material, gathering a fan base and touring around.
the only thing this means is that we're definitly not doing contest any more
