Welcome to the Film Lounge - Part 1

You're doing better than me, i stopped watching after The Spy who Loved me :oldrazz: Simply haven't had the patience to go watch the series again, though i still plan to. I actually liked the small bits of continuity that were in the 8 first films, in the begining of Diamonds are Forever when Bond is going after Blofeld you can feel that it's personal.

I'm starting to get some more respect for Goldfinger than i did when i first saw it, it's definitelly one of the best from the Bond films i've seen, Thunderball also seemed very promising at the begining, and i liked the Mr.1, 2, etc bits, but i found the underwater sequences a little boring.

The one i'm looking the most forward to is Goldeneye, heard it was also one of the best.

I'm done with the franchise. I finished about a month ago, and now it's definitely one my favorite franchises. Goldfinger is indeed awesome. Although not my favorite, to many people it's THE Bond film. As for Thunderball, while I did like it, the underwater sequences really bog it down. At least that one was made with a really fit Connery.

When I was going through Moore's travesties, I wanted to get to GoldenEye so bad due to all the good things I heard about it. It is an awesome action movie and Pierce Brosnan kicks ass. It's a shame his other movies didn't quite live up to GoldenEye or even come close. Oh, and before GoldenEye there's also some very solid efforts from Dalton. The Living Daylights and License to Kill are solid. Anyways, although some movies were terrible, I'd recommend that you watch the whole series. It's kind of cool to see how the times have changed.

About Moore though, i do remember The Spy Who Loved Me being entertaining, the ones i need to watch are 11 to 20, up until now my favorites are From Russia With Love, Casino Royale and possibly Skyfall. Also heard a lot of wonders about Goldeneye, i hope it delivers, Diamonds Are Forever was kinda mediocre, but i did enjoy those 2 killers who brought the bomb cake in the end, as well as the opening, when Bond is after Blofeld it felt very personal, and the beginning of the song of the film was quite chilling.

I like it when there is a kind of continuity between films, with a detour in between (Goldfinger, Skyfall).

Oh man, I didn't like Moore's tenure all that much. Although many'll disagree, I really don't think a classic came out of his tenure. 7 movies and 12 years of nothing great, in my opinion. When his movies were bad, they WERE bad. The four lowly rated movies here are my ranked as the bottom four on my Bond rankings. Oh, and he was so old in AVTAK. 58 and he looked very out of place.

Live and Let Die-7/10
The Man With the Golden Gun-4/10
The Spy Who Loved Me-7/10
Moonraker-3/10
For Your Eyes Only-5/10
Octopussy-7/10
A View to a Kill-4/10

Yeah, i found The Spy Who Loved entertaining, but i'm not sure if it was a classic, i don't really remember all that much of the film, and as a Bond, i've been finding Moore kind of boring, there's just something in him that doesn't click right to me.

The Man with the Golden Gun is weird to me in how it's bad, but at the same time has a great Bond villain, James Bond vs a hitman is an interesting concept on itself, would love to see an idea like that done justice. I saw Live and Let Die some years ago, i really didn't like it at the time, the novel seems to be better though, considering it was Ian Fleming coming out of Casino Royale.

Some people really seem to dislike Pierce Brosnan's take, i haven't seen any of his 007 films, but he does look the part.

Moore isn't bad. He's okay in my book. The only bad Bond to me is Lazenby.

TMWTGG had so much potential. It's Bond vs. Evil Bond. How could they f**k it up that bad? As for Live and Let Die, it was decent. It mainly suffers from an odd villain demise and the 70's New Orleans setting.

Brosnan was an awesome Bond. I can't decide between him and Craig for my second favorite Bond. He was a handsome, suave, and charming man who could also beat you up. The main complaints I see about Brosnan is that he looks like he's modeling, isn't physical enough, and just comes off as a rich British man. Even though he was little out of shape and graying a bit, he still left with dignity after the bad Die Another Day. I wish he had a better outing. Then again, without Die Another Day, we wouldn't have gotten Casino Royale.

RoboCop is released on DVD's already?
The movie didn't even wait 4 months like the movies released in November from last year?

Just watched The Abyss, had to stop it some 4 times, anyone else had the same problem with that movie when they watched it? I usually like James Cameron, but this one was such a bore, i trust that this is a case where the theatrical version is better than the extended one.

I had the same issue. It was interesting but I felt that the out of date technology (the water effects) didn't age well, and because of that a level of excitement originally intended wasn't there anymore. I should check out just the theatrical cut sometime, but with so much else on my list it isn't exactly a priority.

I recall trying to watch that flick sometime ago. I turned it off after 40 minutes - a rare thing for me to do.

One of the reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes asked this question after watching Edge of Tomorrow
How close to the truth is this?
Why do invading extra-terrestrials always bring with them the single thing that can wipe them out? Couldn't they have hid it on Jupiter or something?

Aliens just aren't the smartest when thinking out their invasions. :o

Does that really happen a lot? I'm trying to think of examples, but I'm coming up blank.

If you guys were actual film-makers, what kind of films would you make?

All these alien movies, and never seen any of their ships with autopilot.

A David Cronenberg story Michael Ironside told on his ama:

Do you have any interesting stories, anecdotes or memories you'd like to share from your time working on Scanners with David Cronenberg?

***

I have a lot of 'em.

One in particular: David uses the same crew people and the same creative people, he has a small or extended family, creative family. SO a lot of people had been in the trenches with David before when we did Scanners. I was the newbie.

And David is a very straight, very middle class, average looking person with glasses and an inappropriate haircut and inappropriate shirt. And he came on set one day and said: "I had a dream last night."

And I said "What was it about?"

And I noticed people started to walk away until i was the only one standing there. And he said "I had a dream last night, and my POV was of the ground, and it was a sandy kind of ground, and then vomit started to land on the sandy ground, and it was quite a lot of vomit, and then this wind started to come up and cover the vomit in sand and dust, and the vomit kept coming, and coming..."

He says "And then I felt safe, and satisfied, and relaxed again. And then another wind came, and when the sand had blown away, the vomit had formed into a shape of my naked body, laying on the ground."

He said "I found that very interesting."

I nodded and said "Yeah, that's really, really interesting."

Thankfully we were called to set and had to go shoot a scene. 3 days later, David was standing on set, and he said "I had a dream last night..." and one of my costars said "Really, what did you dream?"

And I walked away with everybody else, and left that person standing there to hear.

And that's a true ****ing story.
