Well think of it this way, when my family did it, it was once in a blue moon. People like to indulge, even OMG poor people. Im betting if you fell into some extra cash you would buy a nice juicy steak or maybe go to a nice restaraunt.

Induldging is one thing...buying junk for your friends and then buying cigarettes with a wad of cash is another.

Welfare Reform - get rid of it. It's unconstitutional.

Maybe, but it is a neccessary evil. Some people do need it. The government should help those who really need their help.People who abuse it is the problem.

Its a lot more cost effective even with welfare fraud just to hand out checks, than opening up centers, finding employees for this center who will get full government benefits and salary, buying meals for the people involved in the program and having someone running a free daycare. Your plan would work in a perfect world but it wouldnt work in this relaity where the government can only spend money on weapons and stuff.

In a perfect world, welfare wouldn't be necessary. If we want to stop welfare fraud and truly want to help the people on welfare then we need to:

1) Teach them how to work
2) Aid them in finding a job
3) Assist them in taking care of their families
4) Show them how to properly spend their money on true essentials

By making them work in the centres showing them how to prepare the meals you'ld cover 1 through 4. (They could actually use the experience to help get them a job). I haven't researched the amount of money lost on welfare fraud, I'm not even sure if there is an accurate figure for it... however hiring a few legitimate employees makes more sense than paying a liar as far as I'm concerned.

Why complain about welfare for the poor when corporate welfare is ten times worse?
I agree, end all subsidies too.

Actually some tax incentives to certain types of business are good because it stimulates economic growth in the selected sector and those businesses then create jobs for the folks who otherwise might be on welfare. There also should be some level of "safety net" for the destitute.

So for me its a balance - some tax cuts in certain areas to encourage economic growth is a good thing. Thinking that all "corporate welfare" is bad misses the point. It souldn't even be called corporate welfare, its really tax cuts to encourage more job creation - and along with it a reform to welfare so that it provides some safety for the destitute and some job training for those that need it.

Universal health care for all.

Socialist and proud of it.

The problem with doing welfare right is that you've got to pay people to babysit it. It's sort of the same problem with protective services and probation. Doing a better job would cost more and nobody wants to man up.
