Welsh People

Family Tradition says I'm descended from Moses's Brother.

Suppossedly im a very distant cousin to hitlers wife. If its true she isnt mentioned in the family tree for obvious reasons lol.

Early Britons descended from the Iberian peninsula so I think that would explain the more darkish features that pop up every now and then.

I guess a good deal of them just concentrated in Wales. Just off the top of my head Christian Bale, Katherine Zeta Jones & Rhys Davies could all easily pass as Spaniards.

Scientists estimate that 1 in every 200 men are direct decendants of Ghengis Khan. He has like 16 million decendants living today! The man liked the lovin.

In Tactitus a Roman Senator and Historian's biography of Gnaeus Julius Agricola who was the Roman general and Governor responsible for most of the Roman conquest of Britain description of the native Silures tribe (which stretched from modern day south Wales to Gloucestershire and Herefordshire of present day England) he described them as having dark complexion and curly hair. Due to their appearance, Tacitus hinted that they may have crossed over from Spain at an earlier date.

Alot of Italian immigrants emigrated to Wales in the late 19th to early20th century.
Wales gave us Batman.

:o
Christian Bale isn't Welsh. His parents are English and where living in Wales when he was born. He moved back to England when he was a toddler and has said doesn't consider himself Welsh.
Who are they descended from?

They seem quite a bit darker in complexion and hair color than the Germanic/Norse mix that makes up the ancestry of British, Scottish, and Irish people.

And why do so many people from New Zealand look more Welsh than British or Australian?

Many Welsh people settled in New Zealand which is why they probably look Welsh.

Alot of Welsh people settled in Argentina as well.

Its why Rugby is played by both those countries.
Welsh people are British.

Britain is the name of the entire island. England, Scotland and Wales are the three nations that make up that island.

Saying Britain is just England is like saying the United States is only the state of Texas.

Welsh people are Celtic like the Scottish, Manx, Irish and Cornish.
I always thought Catherine Zeta-Jones has a very Spanish look to her.

Michael Sheen is dark as well.

Michael Sheen is of Irish ancestry and Catherine Zeta Jones has greek ancestry I believe.

Luke Evans, Jonathan Rhys Davis, Richard Burton, Ruth Jones, Ioan Gruffudd, Owain Yeoman, Andy Whitfield and Matthew Rhys are Welsh actors with more dark features mediterranean looking features I guess.

This is not a criticism of CCon but I don't get why people try to find ethnic traits in nationalities.

People moved around and settled in different places far more than most people realised especially in Europe.

If you are Irish today for example its highly likely your of British(Germanic/French/Scandinavian/Italian/Celtic) or Norman (French/Scandinavian) heritage than just Celtic ancestry.

The average African American has some european ancestry regardless of how light or dark their skin complexion is.

We're all descended from human/cylon hyrbrids that landed here 150,000 years ago. Except Egyptians, who came here via stargate. Deal with it.

Ioan is John and Rhys is the equivalent Reese/Reece in Welsh.

The best word for something in Welsh has to be Microwave which is 'Popty Ping' :)

Wales has the longest place name in Europe as well with the town Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

I'm pretty sure they just named the town that to troll the rest of English speaking Britain.

And then you got some whackos who claim to be thetans.

Is the Welsh the stereotype that they bed sheep?

Yes its because sheep outnumber people in Wales. New Zelanders get called sheep shaggers for the same reason as do people from Aberdeen in Scotland.

Its a centuries old joke/insult.

Okay, I thought you were joking, sorry, I mean taking the piss, at first, but I looked it up, and it's real! :awesome:

That is incredible. I will use this word every freaking day from now on until I die.

What a ridiculous load of rot!

The things that came through the Stargate were body-snatching snake creatures that simply possessed the Egyptians.

Oh please. That show is nothing but anti-Goa'uld propaganda. I accuse it of being complete fiction.

That's right, FICTION! The truth is out there, my friend ...

"English" is little more of a specific ethnic group than "American". Great Britain is a melting pot of English, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh which are widely intermixed with each other (much of the population of Liverpool, including The Beatles, is of Irish descent, Michael Sheen is Welsh of Irish descent, Brian Cox is Scottish of Irish descent, Hugh Grant is English of Scottish descent, Tony Blair is of Irish descent, etc.), and also widely descended from French Normans, who themselves were descended from Scandinavian Vikings or ancient Romans or Celts or Gauls...it's all mixed together. Laurence Olivier was English of French descent, as just another example, and Ralph Fiennes is of Norman descent.

Continental Europe is the same way. The Huguenots fled from France to Germany to escape religious persecution, and intermixed with Germans. To this day there are Germans with surnames like Paulus that originate from the ancient Romans who established colonies and military bases in Germany.

This made the Nazis' obsession with "pure Aryan ancestry" all the more ridiculous. The Germans are no more "pure blooded" than anyone else in Europe. They have Celtic, Roman, Slavic, and various other heritages. Just look at some of the leading Nazis. One look at Hitler or Goebbels, and do you really think they're of "pure Germanic ancestry"?

This is also why Northern Italians are fairer than Southern Italians. Northern Italy borders Austria, hence more intermixing with the Germans and Austrians. Also, Sicily was conquered by the African Moors, who intermixed with Sicilian women and produced Sicilians with black hair and darker complexions we see today.

Yep Schlosser85

Saying your 100% anything is basically saying your inbred :oldrazz:

Pure breds usually live in mountains and wed their first cousins. Does that really sound superior to anything?

That is a great way to look at it. Too bad we cant all unite as one tribe.

I love my family heritage. We know my mothers side descends from the Germanic tribes that Rome fought on numerous occassions. They migrated into a part of switzerland and were rebels in Switzerland at a time. There are church documents from the 1400s discussing land given to her ancestors. Her family records go back to the 1300s with a complete family tree. I love going through it all.

Anyone else got any cool ancestry that they know of?

My last name is Kidd which is English and I'm also related to the pirate Captain Kidd

Well, he is Welsh by nationality. Or did he apply for US citizenship?
