I just noticed while watching the cult classic The Toxic Avenger on G4 this evening that TDK blatantly stole a scene right from it!

During a restaurant scene in TTA three mean wearing make up walk in to an establishment. The leader of these men say to the patrons of this eatery "Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. We are the entertainment for this afternoon."

This obviously mimics the scene in TDK where Mr. J arrives with his goons at Bruce's fundraiser.

What do you think? Coincidence or theft?

Ya I always did think that was one of the more generic things TDK had in the film.

I'd really never heard it until now, but it could be a coincidence. I mean how many people have seen TTA really?

Hell I think two-face says it in Batman forever. It is like I said a very generic saying that has been in other films.

I noticed that too. Its not just the line. Its the whole scene where they crash a restaurant with shotguns, intimidate the patrons, act crazy, say that line, etc. Its virtually identical to the party scene in Dark Knight. There's no way they intentionally copied it off Toxic Avenger. But we're all influenced by things we've seen and heard. So the likely explanation is that He watched it at some point growing up and its Nolan's subconscious mind replicating that scene when he wrote Dark Knight.

but besides, in film plagiarism is ok, just call it an homage

As much as I love the movie, The Toxic Avenger shouldn't even be used in the same sentence with The Dark Knight.

Maybe the unrated DVD will have an extended cut where Batman deep fries Joker's hands and makes his face into a chocolate sundae.

The Toxic Avenger is one of my all time favorites....but The Dark Knight is my favorite. Simply Put. I pretty much agree with everybody else that it's a very common line and concept.

Indeed. Much as the ''origin-monologues'' are a bit like satires on the usual, cliché ''Daddy didn't love me'' speeches villains give in B-movies.
