It’s no secret filmmaker Wes Anderson is working on a stop-motion animated movie about dogs, not unlike the one he made with “Fantastic Mr. Fox.” Some of the cast has already been announced: Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Bob Balaban and Bryan Cranston. Today, in a video announcement, Anderson revealed the title of the film, “Isle Of Dogs,” and the rest of the cast including Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton and Greta Gerwig.

The voice cast also includes F, Murray Abraham, Harvey Keitel, Frances McDormand, Live Schreiber and Yoko Ono alongside Japanese actors Kunichi Nomura, Akira Ito, Akira Takayama and Koyu Rankin. Anderson once called the movie a “Japanese story” so presumably the isle in the movie is set somewhere in Japan and this explains the new group of actors joining Anderson’s troupe.

There is a YT vid of John Lennon rocking out with his childhood hero, Chuck Berry. Berry is the reason he picked up a guitar. And what happens? Awful -talentless Yoko just screams into the microphone, for no goddamn reason. Chuck's reaction is priceless. Physical handling of the situation is never the answer, but John should have at least thrown water on her goddamn face, and ask her to stop.

I'm rambling, but Wes Anderson needs to cast more brothas and brown brothas. His goddamn highwater pants. smh.

Wes Anderson and dogs in the same sentence makes me nervous. :funny:

This is, of course, amazing.

Watched the trailer - Nope. He's going to kill so many of those things. :funny:

Nope nope nope

Nice to see him doing another stop-motion flick.

Great trailer.

This and Lego Batman movie is going to fight it out in the Best Animation category.

Stop motion is going to reign supreme next year with this film, Laika's new film and Early Man.

This made me think of "all dogs go to heaven"

Anderson's films are a mix bag for me. Some I just adore like LIFE AQUATIC and some I can barely tolerate like ROYAL TANENBAUMS. The one film I have no issues with what so ever which seemed to me to be the movie that actually lived up to the potential in him as a filmmaker was FANTASTIC MR. FOX. So hearing that this is being well received gets me very excited. I hope he uses the same outside the studio method to record the dialog for this film as he did on FOX. That just took the performances to a next level in my mind and I wish more animated films did that.

Anderson won Best Director at that Berlin film festival by the way.

Also, here is a silly photo.

Kevin Feige now want to use photoshop recreate this with the entire MCU cast.

^ The Jeff Goldblum part wasn't animation; he actually shapeshifts for the interview segments.

While Fantastic Mr. Fox was based on pre-existing written material, Isle of Dogs is a completely original story from the mind of Anderson and it honestly might be his best-crafted work (figuratively and literally) since his previous film. I would’ve said “since Rushmore” but The Grand Budapest Hotel was a terrific story with great performances and memorable characters. Anderson is currently on a streak where he has given up writing cartoonish characters for the sake of prioritizing style over substance, and now focuses on writing more intricate stories. As much as I love and appreciate most of Anderson’s previous work, Isle of Dogs is the most unpredictably elaborate and developed story Anderson has written to date.

Isle Of Dogs maintains Wes Anderson's winning streak of delightful and poignant storytelling by being his most thoughtfully charming one to date.

Here's my 4 star review of Isle of Dogs:

This may very well be the first Wes Anderson film I see in a theater.
