Leaving Xavier out, since he is the mentor, and taking into account that this is and will always be an ensemble franchise, even with all of this, if it were up to 6 X-Men to be the leads on the franchise from this point and moving forward, having a really important role and to become the most popular X-Men for the general audience during the next decade...

What 6 members do you think they deserve it to be?

We know it will be:
Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Beast, Nightcralwer, Wolverine.

the question was more about who should be

Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Beast, Wolverine, and Nightcrawler should he appear.

If we get more films in the present timeline, it should be

Cyclops, Jean, Wolverine (obviously, they just can't demote him to a supporting character), Storm, Rogue, Gambit

Iceman, Shadowcat, Beast, Colossus, Angel, Nightcrawler could stay as supporting characters as long as they get enough development/screentime

No more Magneto/Mystique after Apocalypse and less Professor X

Its time to focus on the X-Men being the X-Men

100% agree with your post, tho Id personally give Nightcrawler lead status, with Wolverine having a bit smaller role, but oh well...

I'd make Cyclops the star since he's been seriously underused and he's supposed to be the leader. Plus, among the villains who haven't been used yet, Stryfe and Miser Sinister have very personal relationships to Scott.

Storm and Wolverine should get the second most screen time.

And then rounding out the cast would be Beast, Gambit and Phoenix.

I don't want Beast to be one of the "leads" even if he's being portrayed by Kelsey Grammer. For me, he's a good character but not just interesting to be the center of the film or the story. So I prefer him to be a supporting character.

Wolverine has been the star of most movies, I think its time he passes the torch to young Cyclops and Jean. Mostly taking into account that if Fox do more sequels in the past, it should be their movies, not Wolverine's movies. Is just not right to keep wasting those two important characters in favour of Wolverine once again.

Wolverine still has Wolverine 3 and can still appear in all the present time movies, so... to use him in all the movies, both past and present should stop.

Guys, i don't think you need to worry about the lead for the next trilogy .

Do you really think Wolverine is still the lead after FC and DOFP ?
Do you really think Xavier, Magneto, Mystique and Beast will have big roles in the next trilogy ?

X men Apocalypse will be the last episode and conclude FC story .
So the stars will change and Cyclop, Jean and Storm will be the leads , it is a logical step .

Imagine the X men in the 90's :woot:

The OT timeline is now secondary to the "First Class" timeline. Yes, they might be able to still use some of the OT cast for things like an FF/X-Men cross-over, or what have you, but it's the movies in the past that is where they are now focused.

So, based on that, the characters should be as follows:

Apocalypse Movie

- Young Marvel Girl
- Young Cyclops
- Young Storm
- Young Nightcrawler
- Gambit
- Quicksilver

- Professor X & Beast should be in mentor roles, with Beast focusing on the Danger Room, jet, Cyclops' Ruby Quartz Glasses, etc.
- Mystique (& Brotherhood), Magneto as villains (in a sense)/reluctant support
- Wolverine should be the Horseman Death
- Sinister as secondary villain/set up for future movie
- Apocalypse as main villain

Next X-Men Movie - I would like to see the Asteroid M story

- Young Marvel Girl
- Young Cyclops
- Young Storm
- Young Nightcrawler
- Gambit
- Wolverine (what would his healing factor do in the vacuum of space?)
- Forge, Polaris and/or Dazzler (one or two of them)

- Professor X & Beast should be in mentor roles
- Magneto, Quicksilver and Acolytes as "villains"/plot points
- Cortez as the real villain
- Mystique (not sure how to use her in this one?)

X-Men Movie After That - I would like to see a Shi'Ar/Starjammers or Sinister story

- Young Marvel Girl
- Young Cyclops
- Young Storm
- Young Nightcrawler
- Gambit
- Wolverine
- Forge, Polaris and/or Dazzler (the remaining one or two)

- Professor X & Beast should be in mentor roles
- Shi'Ar story = D'Ken and the M'Kraan Crystal (Lilandra, Vulcan, Deathbird, Lila Cheney (maybe), the Imperial Guard (including Gladiator). Sinister = Mutant Massacre (Marauders, Morlocks)
- Mystique (not sure how to use her - maybe she joins X-Factor or leads Freedom Force, with the initial requirement of capturing Magneto?) This could lead to a solo movie. Would love to see her with Destiny!

So, as you can see, there are many really good stories for them to do between 1983 and 2003. If they focus on the 1980's and 1990's and keep using this new cast, then they'll have something really good. Will it be everything we've always wanted? Probably not, but with the messed up timeline issues and everything, if ^ is what we get it'll be good to be an X-Men fan.

THIS x1000!
You have my vote for President.

I'd rather see Cyclops share the spotlight with Xavier in Apocalypse so as one trilogy ends, another begins where Cyclops remains the lead through X-Cutioner's Song and Messiah Complex. Then Storm would take over as the lead for Fatal Attractions, Proteus and Fall of the Mutants.

As long as Wolverine, Deadpool or Gambit don't hog all the screen time, I'm cool. Those three have their own solo films and shouldn't be the stars of ensembles.

Been thinking a bit more about how great it would be to build this franchise to the point where the X-Men go to space, and especially to the Shi'Ar homeworld and we would get Lilandra, D'Ken, Deathbird, the Imperial Guard and... the Starjammers.

After how amazingly fun the Guardians of the Galaxy movie turned out to be, this seems like a logical (3-6 years down the road) step. IMO, the Starjammers are effectively the Guardians of the X-Men movie-verse.

So, one of the main connections between the Starjammers and the X-Men is Corsair. And it's always been, IMO, important how Corsair is not only the father of both Scott and his younger brother, Havok, but how he and his wife saved their sons before being teleported away.

Of course, we have a difficult situation to create this exact background since we've seen Havok in First Class (and DoFP) way back in 1963. Back then he was what, maybe 17 or 18? So, is there a way to establish Christopher Summers as Scott's (and his younger brother's) father?

Well, not without difficulty, but maybe...

With Alex around 18 in 1963 he would be say 38 in this 1983 set Apocalypse movie, and if Scott is going to be (as expected) 16 years old, there's only 4 years difference. What I'm trying to point out is that it looks like Scott will have been born in 1967, just 4 years after the events of First Class.

But that doesn't mean that we're dead in the water here. One option would be to simply establish that Alex (Havok) is Scott's father and that he also has another son named Alex (after the father). Yes, this takes away "Christopher" Summers as Corsair and turn Alex (Lucas Till) into Corsair. Could Lucas Till pull off this role? Maybe... And the truth is we were never shown whether he married, had a kid or kids, or whatever. In fact, whose to say he wasn't a pilot in the military?

Now another simple way to maintain this story is to keep Christopher Summers as Corsair and effectively turn Alex from First Class into Uncle Alex. And it really wouldn't take too much to show this in a future movie that might include the Starjammers. In fact, why not make a Starjammers movie where Corsair's origins are shown. A simple picture of the two brothers, or Christopher's wife or kids simply saying something like, "Will Uncle Alex be there" is enough.

What I really like about this is that this gives more to Cyclops as far as character development. Exploring how he became orphaned. His being the "big brother", which somewhat led to his leadership. Him learning that his father is still alive. All of it plays very well into the character of Cyclops. And really, this is the type of stuff that has been lacking for Cyclops' character in the movies. In addition, it would "fix" another timeline plot hole that has been caused in the movies.

So, would you like to see the Starjammers and Corsair in a future X-Men or Starjammers movie?

Yes, but not Alex as Corsair.
Even in my family there is sister 21 yo older than brother.
So Alex can be 21 yo older than Scott. Alex parents could make another baby at those hippie years (late 60's), especially when Alex left house.
Corsair would be 55-60 in 1983, if he's Alex's father.

^ I agree with you on not having Alex as Corsair.

As far as your other idea, I guess they could go the route of making Alex (from First Class) the 22 years older brother of Cyclops, but I'm not a fan. I'd much rather just make that Alex Cyclops' Uncle so that Scott Summers has a younger brother named Alex (after his Uncle). It's cleaner and more simple, and most importantly, sticks closer to canon, allows for Christopher Summers to be Corsair and Scott's (and Alex's) father, and could even lead to the new Havok (and Polaris!) joining the X-Men in the next X-Men movie. And again, it would be real simple to explain. Just have Scott say something like "this is my younger brother Alex" and then have Alex say (when asked about his powers) "My Uncle was a mutant (notice the past tense - sorry Mr. Till) who had similar powers, though I am able to shoot it through my hands", or something like that. In other words, he absorbs cosmic energy, but rather than wiggle around like Alex Till did, and have to wear the funny suit Beast invented, this Alex can channel it through his arms and hands in order to shoot it.

Again, simple, clean and easy!

Alex was older brother in Ultimate.
Better older brother than two Alexs.
We already have to Emmas.

^ 22 year difference makes Alex pretty much unusable going forward. I'd rather have an Alex that could be brought in to the X-Men so that he could be setup to be with Polaris and possibly lead X-Factor in the future. Now that would be smart.

Pretty much do this:

- X-men Apocalypse: with Scott, Jean and Ororo
- Next X-Men movie: add younger brother Alex and Polaris
- Next X-Men movie: do the Shi'Ar & Starjammers
- X-Factor: Branch off and start the government X-Factor led by Havok

And you can keep branching. You could easily have the following:

- X-Men (main team - Xavier Institute)
- New Mutants - turns into:
- X-Force (with Cable, Domino, Canonball, Boom Boom & Shatterstar)
- X-Factor (government team - need Alex and Polaris)
- Deadpool solo
- Mystique solo (Destiny)
- Starjammers (The X-Men Movie-verse Guardians of the Galaxy)
- Gambit solo
- Wolverine solo (at least until #4)
- Excalibur (In the OT with Kitty, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Captain Britain & Meagan)

I might even be missing something?

Who should be:

Cyclops
Jean
Storm
Gambit
Beast
Nightcrawler

Keep Magneto/Mystique out of the picture for a while. Find a clever way to explain Wolverine's exit after Apocalypse, because for obvious reasons he can't be around.

I'm not interested in X-Men without Wolverine.

I am. The character has had way more than his fair share. Way more. Time for a nice long break from the character. Start showcasing the younger guys who will be introduced in Apocalypse. You can't do that and service Jackman's Wolverine at the same time. That's why he has to go. He has another whole movie all to himself coming out in 2017. That should tide us all over for a while.

Jackman. Too big too just play second fiddle to these younger guys. It can't continue to be the Wolverine show. If he's around those 6 wouldn't get their due. Plus Jackman's not getting younger.
