This thread is inspired by 'Jungle Book' and seeing what we can do today.

To start off with, an instant classic and childhood favorite...

A New York City adventure with a group of dinosaurs and a couple of kids.

Though there's been no word of this since almost a year, I'm still looking forward to Robert Rodriguez realizing the work of Frank Frazetta come to life on the big screen:

..and maybe this one also:

Sausage Party

I can say this because they're currently not heading in the right direction for a live action franchise for this IP and this really should've been the direction to go. It's sad how they don't think a live action version of this would not make a good movie because of a mentality that can be chalked up to different problems rather than "anime can't be adapted" and they decided to cop out with something silly direction that doesn't reflect what the franchise is really about.

A condensed version of the mini-movie focusing more on the Ash/Red rivalry with Gary/Blue with Brock, Misty and Professor Oak as supporting characters would have been great.

After seeing The Jungle Book earlier this year and loving it, I'm ready to see The Lion King (my favorite Disney film) made into live action.

For ages I said the little mermaid but that's getting adapted now :). Can I say Street Sharks? I know it's not a movie but it would be my hearts desire.

Failing that, Neon Genesis Evangelion

Gargoyles would be BEYOND awesome. I'm hoping, now that the 90s are slowly becoming retro, we'll finally get it.

Film description:

From his stronghold in Ice Peak, the evil Nekron sends forth a wave of deadly glaciers, forcing humanity to retreat to Fire Keep, a kingdom ruled by a generous king. When King Jarol's daughter Teegra is kidnapped, young warrior Larn teams with the mysterious and legendary Dark Wolf, to rescue the princess and the realm from Nekron’s evil sorcery.

Although a more primal elemental incarnation, can't help but see the Game of Thrones (Song of Ice and Fire) parallels , wonder how many upon learning of it now would be quick to think - what a simple ripoff. :O

If we are opening this up to animated series:

I entered this thread to say exactly this. I've been dreaming of a live-action Gargoyles movie for years! What a great show, I can't believe Disney haven't done anything (other than comics) with the property in almost twenty years.

It'd make a great movie or three.

The Last Unicorn. Great film and I think it would translate well to live-action.

If we are going to open it up to series, I would love to see a big budget live-action adaptation of Slayers. It has a few films, but I would base it more on the novels/series. If there is any anime out there that is made to be a film series, it is that one, and Lina Inverse is a fantastic lead character. Done right, I think Slayers could be HUGE.

Still hoping it happens.

Yeah, possibly.

Still, I think with the latest success of Legend of Tarzan and Warcraft, now would be a most appropriate time for Rodriguez(I believe it might depend also on Sony) to start making this project(sword & sorcery and jungle action). If he really manages to capture something visually unique with Frazetta's visuals, have a much more fleshed out story than the original, and display the apt R-rated brutal action that worked so well for Mad Max:Fury Road, this could really be, not only maybe his best film yet, but maybe also one of the best films of this genre ever made. With Rodriguez, I can see this effectively being both nostalgic(with some of the cast, visuals, and musical score) while also channeling a modern angst(e.g., female empowerment and diversity) like in Sin City, Machete, and From Dusk Till Dawn:The Series.

I don't know what kind of animated movie there is that I would adapt for live-action without some reconfiguring...although there's a couple of DCAU pilots, multi-parters and DTVs I'd love to see taken a crack at while telling WB where they can shove their grimdark.

That said, I'd probably rework Transformers: The Movie by replacing the major robot cast with earlier G1 characters - accordingly making it an origin story for Orion Pax/Optimus Prime in Hot Rod's place -

bringing in a touch of IDW with a former miner/pit fighter designated D-16 being reformatted into Megatron -

and using a bit of TF: Prime lore to get them to Earth...namely, the idea of Earth itself being
Unicron's body.
