I think it's better to have a face that can convey emotions and that people can relate to. What about you guys?

Does Megatron really need a sadistic smirk?

Personally its all about character, if they can portray there characteristics without showing emotion in there face then thats ok. It would be nice to see some form of expression but may not be necessary. Although with what Bay has done to them, ie Decepticons look cliche' evil, you don't need to hear them to know they are evil.

As "not great" as Fantastic Four was (it could have been great in the hands of a better director), one thing it did prove is that static humanoid faces can be very imposing and "cool"... even without exagerrated expressions. I loved Dr. Doom.

I always pictured a live action Transformers movie with the static humanoid "face on mars" type features... and all emotion conveyed through lighted eyes.

...But thats just "my" imagination. Obviously Michael Bay (who never played with a Transformer in his life... as a kid) thinks differently.

I think humanoid faces would have been a lot better than what we're getting, that's for sure. You are supposed to see them as living creatures, with feelings and emotions, not these monster-faced scary war-robots. Their faces are so mutated and bug-complex, that I doubt anyone is going to give a **** when one dies or something bad happens. Bay probably thought; "They'll identify with Shia. Then love it as the blank monster robots kill each other while Shia finds boobies!! Boom!! *Explosion*"

IMO, the static humanoid faces is probably what would have saved most of the designs. The overall body designs are cool, but the heads are no where near recognizable except for Prime. I guess Bay figured if he had one look somewhat recognizable, then that would compensate for the rest of them looking like crap.

Humanoid faces would have helped to convey the notion that each TF has his own unique personality, as well as emotions, just as humans do. This was definitely one of the main things that was not broken, and didn't need to be fixed. It's no wonder this movie has been getting such a negative reaction from the fanbase, when simple things like this are changed for no apparent reason.

pros:The ability to convey the characters emotions--but then this film isn't really about the Transformers, so I doubt they will really have any true character depth.

cons:Has to be done within the context of the characters and film;i.e., a fantasy film with less leanings towards realism would allow for more creative leaway and how the faces and emotion could be conveyed. For a film striving for a "what if real world" take the interpretations might have to be more rigid and limited to believability;i.e., a hologram face or just a static image/face with no moving parts.

So far, I haven't seen one indication that any of them have humanoid faces.

None of them do. Even Prime, who has the most faithful head, is ruined by really weird eyes that are spaced apart oddly and look more like cheeks than eyes (look at the closeup pics from a few months ago in the All Pictures thread).

Judging by most recent pics I'd have to say the real question is what are the pros and cons of Transformers having ass-like faces.

Pros: They look "alien".

Cons: They look like ass.

Someone should post the pics that somebody had up a while back with TF that had humanoid faces and it looked realistic, As a matter of fact once the Movie Ratchet pic leaked, someone had done a version of him with his G1 colors and his G1 head

They are ALIEN robots...they shouldn't have faces that look too human.
As long as they can convey their emotions through their voices and gestures, that works just as good.

But most of their faces look like earth bugs. They should have made them look buglike in their "protoforms" and when they change to their Earth alt modes their faces could look more "human" or IMO...better.

The Transformers already have other humanoid features, for the most part. They have two arms, two legs, hands, feet, fingers and a head. They walk upright and walk around and run like humans do. From that point, it's really not that much of a stretch to give them human faces.

The audience already understands that they are alien robots, because they come from outer space. They don't need weird faces to emphasize that point. And why would you want to emphasize it, anyway? Last time I checked, we don't have any examples of Earth-grown races of robots to compare with these fictional characters.
(with the possible exception of DOG LIPS)

Along with humanoid faces, I've noticed [in the trailer] that the TRANSFORMERS' bodies also move much like as if they were made of muscles, and bones . . . especially if you pay attention to Ironhide's arm [not when he smashes the aluminum stepladder leading into the pool, but when he uses it {his arm} to assist, and proppell his body up, and out of the pool - the second, or third shot of him I believe].

I think that some people will be surprised [either pleasantly, or unpleasantly], when they see the TFs' move on the screen for the first time, and they won't move like robots at all [stiff, and heavy], but rather like elegant, giant beings.
