Has anyone here been watching this new show, Continuum? I've just recently moved in with a friend of mine who has cable, so I'm finally able to watch TV again, and I've just discovered this series. It's on Showcase here in Canada (I'm not sure if it's shown in the States, or on what channel).

For those of you unfamiliar with it, Episode 1 starts about 60 or 70 years in the future. A group of terrorists steal a time travel device and travel back in time to 2012, intending to disrupt the timeline so that their future never happens. A lady cop is sent back in time after them in order to save their future. It's kinda like "Time Cop: The Series", except traveling back and forth through time is far more complex and involved.

Anyway, I've only watched the first couple of episodes, but so far it seems like a pretty decent show. I'm a little unclear as to who I should be rooting for though (and I think that's by design). From what I can tell about the future that the terrorists are trying to destroy, North America has essentially become a futuristic Nazi Germany or Communist Russia. There's no freedom of speech. Citizens are taken from their homes and never seen again for the slightest provocation. Unless you are a member of the wealthy elite, you're pretty much treated like crap. Even then you're not always safe from the government. Yet the lady cop sent back to stop them is supposed to be designated "the good guy". I think I'll wait and see how this show turns out, but so far it looks pretty good.

So who else has watched this show? What are your thoughts? Do you like it? Dislike it? Are you taking a "Wait & See" approach? All opinions are welcomed and encouraged, so go ahead and speak your minds. I look forward to your responces.

It sounds like a really good show. I looked it up and it seems it does not have USA distribution yet. Thanks for the heads up on the show and I hope I can watch it soon.

It sounds a lot like Time Trax to me so I'll probably love it.

So far I rather enjoy it. It comes on Sunday nights here in Vancouver. In fact, I believe it's also filmed & set here in Vancouver as well. Hopefully it will be shown in the US as well soon. Probably will happen this October.

I've seen the first three episodes and like it so far.

I wouldn't mind seeing waaay less of her "I know everything at the touch of a keyboard" companion Alec though. Terribly miscast police chief too.

I managed to watch the few first episodes and I'm liking it a lot. I'm happy how it shifts between the future cop and the terrorists. It is nice to see terrorists painted as something other then just pure evil. While something does need to be done about the government, killing 30,000 people is probably not the best way to go about it.

I can't wait to see where it all goes.

When I was looking for stuff on Continuum on You Tube to post here, I stumbled upon teasers for ANOTHER show with the same name. It's about a man and a woman awaken from a cryogenic sleep to find themselves on a spaceship with no memory of who they are or why they're there.

Just so there's no confusion, this thread is for the other Continuum, the one about terrorists known as "Liber8" traveling back in time from 2077 to 2012, and a lady cop who follows them here to stop them.

How did you manage to see it if it has no American distributer?

A friend in Canada and a webcam.

I've watched the first three episodes and so far I´m liking the show enough to keep watching.

It really helps the show that there aren't many good shows airing at this time of the year.

Here are the You Tube videos I promised:

If it manages to get a second season, Sy-Fy will probably snatch it up like they did Lost Girl.

We can hope. The only down side is the show gets repeated practically all week long on Showcase. While that's good for fans of the show who miss the Sunday airing for whatever reason, it's the ratings of the Sunday airing which determines how well a series is doing to the suits at the network.

That was the downfall of The Breakout Kings. A really good show with a very loyal following, but not everyone watched the episodes on the night they premiered. That hurt their "official ratings" which got them cancelled.

I just hope the same doesn't happen with Continuum.

My thoughts are Continuum is whitewash to make the corporations look like they're good guys. Everyone knows the sociopath mind set of our corporate citizens yet this show portrays them like they and their employees are the underdogs. If I was one of the Libre8, I wouldn't be trying to coerce todays society into fighting the corporations rise to statehood. I would be reaching the masses and showing them the path future events will take place in peaceful demonstrations and information--you gotta admit they know what's going to happen.
I' beginning to wonder if this was intentional, if this is really propaganda.

Edited
last nights show, i think i saw the winds of change with the corporate cop

I believe I had said something in my opening post very similar to this. From what I can figure out from the evidence provided in the show, in about 40 years or so the Canadian government will collapse due to mismanagement. In response, the corporations bail out the government and take over control of the country. As a result, much of the mess left behind by our current government is fixed, but at a cost of many of the freedoms and liberties we now take for granted.

By the time Keira becomes a cop, The Corporate Government is all she knows. THAT is the lifestyle she is sworn to protect. I wouldn't be at all surprised if her point of view is changed during her time in 2012. How it'll affect her hunt for the members of Liber8 will remain to be seen.

As for Liber8's methods, I believe they're already changing. In 2077 they blew up a corporate building killing 30,000 people. In a recent episode, they kidnapped a corporate CEO, held her hostage, all the while having her strapped to a harmless confetti bomb. They had the ransom money be given out to the corporation's protesters, forced her to confess her illegal dealings to the public, let the general public decide her fate, and informed the general public of their goals through a link on their website.

Like I said before, Liber8 are the criminals, but they're not in the wrong.

I've followed this show from the beginning and it's one of my favs. I was wondering if there was a thread on it. I don't live in Canada so I've had to use "alternative methods" to get my fix. lol But I'm loving and how the story is unfolding thus far. The use of flashbacks are a nice touch as well as they play into present day events. There is a huge reveal at the end of Episode 8 with Alec. Could this be a turning point for the person he becomes in the future?

**** hits the fan in Episode 9. They set up that plot point with the
fertilizer
in a previous episode.

Episode 9

"Family Time"

Director: William Waring | Writer: Floyd Kane

Alerted to a bulk purchase of ammonium nitrate (a fertilizer used in explosives and agriculture), Kiera and Carlos visit Roland's farm only to have events spiral into a tense armed standoff.

This is Showcase's highest rated show. Chances of a 2nd second season are pretty much a foregone conclusion.

really enjoying this show.... (via a similar set up to Tanin btw). Good cast along with a really interesting twist in the time travel idea..

Technically only the present day characters are the good guys.... Liber8 are a terrorist group.... and Nichol's character is working for a corrupt controlling group. So who do you root for?

The plot thickens! Great episode last night. That revelation at the end was insane! Definitely changes my perspective on several characters. Especially after rewatching the Pilot episode. Things are set up for an incredible Season Finale next week.

man... TV cops are ****ing stupid ... obvious that the twits would do what they did the moment they turned up.
