With the new DC Animated Universe DVD movie thing going on, what Batman stories do you want adapted into an animated film, and what style do you want (TAS, comic-style, etc...)

I'd dig Knightfall, but then, everyone wants that one. DKR, too.

But the one I really, really want adapted is Strange Apparitions and Dark Detective. It's the definitive Batman in the definitive stories. Simple as that.

I'd want a comic-accurate art style. TAS was great, but if these new movies are going to be out of continuity, let's move away from the Timm style.

Voices, I want an entirely new voice cast as well. Something with more of a silver age flair.

Killing Joke. :joker:

Comic style.

Oh, and i'd like Tim Curry to voice The Joker. He was Tim Burton's second choice for the movie if Nicholson declinned, and the FIRST choice for TAS, but was deemed "too scary"....i'd really like to hear what he can do with the role.

Killing Joke would be awesome, but I've always wanted The Long Halloween to be adapted, and I'm very happy that Nolan & Co. have said they are using a large amount of material from T.L.H. for refrence for T.D.K.

Long Halloween would rule!

The Long Halloween would be awesome. Especially in Sales style.

Just, for Gods sake, dont do HUSH. That is soo overrated.

The Man Who Laughs, Hamill as the voice of Joker.

I'd love to see Arkham Asylum done in animated style but not TAS.

Dark Knight Returns TAS(like in the episode) would be fantastic.

Like everyone else has said, I'd love to see Long Halloween adapted into an animated film as well. But I don't really want it in Tim Sale's art style.

Whether or not they are in continuity, a lot of the DC cartoons now are sticking with the Bruce Timm designs. The Doomsday movie is, and I think the New Frontier is too.

I'd like to see TLH, Knightfall and Catacylsm adapted I think.

Well they did adapt The Laughing Fish in TAS. Great episode--probably my favorite.

I don't know about Dark Detective though. It just wasn't up to par with what Englehart and Rogers did in the 70's. I wouldn't call it definitive either--hell, everyone has their own "definitive-definitive."

There's Bob Kane Batman, Dick Sprang Batman, Burton Batman, Nolan Batman, Neal Adams Batman, Marshall Rogers Batman, BTAS...they're all definitive in their own ways.

New Frontier is Darwyn Cook, iirc.

I see what you did there:cwink:

You forgot Schumacher's Batman!:oldrazz:

T'was fantastic, but I want it all covered. Sliver St. Cloud, The Penguin story, Hugo Strange and Rupert Thorne..... All of it!

I LOVED Dark Detective. The story wasn't as compelling as Strage Apparitions, but compared to the current Batman comics, it was the best thing since Knightfall.

And, generally, Engalhart and Rogers' run is called "The Definitive Batman", which I agree with. For me, it IS the definitive Batman, the stories against which I compare all other Batman stories.

On another note, I really don't see what's so great about TLH. I think it's unbelieveably overrated. It was good, but people act like it was the best Batman story ever. Nope. That honor goes to Strage Apparitions. Because old school fans know best! :oldrazz:

DocLathropBrown ist the man.

I grew up reading the 70's stuff. Rogers was my favorite artist and the stories were great. I have to say tho, I dont get the praise Dark Detective got. I was very let down by it, no where near the quality of the 70's stuff. It was almost as if they were trying to mimic themselves.

Agreed.

There are alot of elements from Knightfall that will be in TDK come 2k8. Not so much in the exact details, but in theme and essence. Batman facing OVERWHELMING odds, breaking down, etc.

co-sign, at least the 70's run anyway.

Also agree with this.

Yep even more agreement. I read back issues though not when they first came out, sorry old man lol.

I would like to see adaptations Matt Wagners updates of Batman's first encounter with Hugo Strange and the Mad Monk. Get Wagner himself to do it he already has an animated series-esque style but it has a more adult vibe to it.

I would also like to see an animated film that pretty much has Batman reminiscing on his past and how far he has come along (There's No Hope in Crime Alley style, hell include all the Leslie Thompkins moments from that story). Basically show him training with Shiva and Ducard, meeting other detectives & fighters from around the world. Learning the art of theatricality and deception from mysterious figures. Basically an amalgam of all the little origin bits from the comics in one movie starring the Neal Adams Batman. My god that would be too perfect.

I don't care what stories get animated but I would like to see more of an anime styled detail on Batman like Akira or Ghost In The Shell but stay away from Pokemon.

I pretty much hated all the square jawed people that were animated in BTAS

Knightfall hands down. Reading the books/comics, Knightfall would be awesome.

Honestly, I want to see a live action Azrael as the Angel of Death weilding a fiery sword. Since I read Knightfall, I've always wanted some sort of movie with Batman/Bane/Azrael. Obviously, if they ever do it, it would take a while with the current story that Nolan is doing, assuming he even does it long enough to get that far.

Knightfall would be interesting, but I think it would play out exactly the same as Superman: Doomsday, so...hmm...Year One, with the narrations.

And if they were going to do DKR--cast the Keaton. He's perfect for Old Batman.

oooo I was just thinking...

What if they did an animated film done in the style of the Burton films and played it as Tim Burton's "Batman 3" ?

It would be a pure fanboy thing though, since little kids now would be like "What's this?"

lol, that would be sweet. it would make people go out and rent burtons two films and remember the great times they had watching them in the past.

A knightfall would be sweet.
We could really see how much a badass Bane really was with a pg-12 rating.
I would also like to see Gothem by gaslight, hush, the long halloween, a new batman/superman team-up, alot of new stories wouldn't be bad. Seeingmore of ra's would be cool.

Any children over the age of 8 that don't know what Burton's films are don't deserve to live.
