I wrote a simular question on the Marvel films board. Basically, due to legal issues, much of Batman's character had been given to Green Arrow on Smallville,Impulse was used instead of the Flash and it seems like on an upcoming episode they've created a character simular to Captain Marvel (boy who magically turns into a super powered adult).

If legal issues come into play, what DC characters would make suitable replacements?

i think this thread should be put over in smallville board since it more relates to smallville.

Well, it could also relate to films. For example, Barry Allen was supposed to take on the Blue Beetle role in the JL: Mortal script. By that I mean that he was the one going on the hunt for information and being killed by Maxwell Lord.

there are no legal issues. WB own DC, whereas Marvel have sold some of there rights to other studios, hence why Daredevil and Spiderman universe were split.

Yes, there are no legal issues, but I am just pointing out that there are stories in which one character can be used as a substitute for another to make the story work better in the film's context. There would most likely never be a Crisis on Infinite Earths movie, or a fullblown Infinite Crisis movie, so the Justice League: Mortal script took part of the Infinite Crisis/OMAC story and replaced the death of Ted Kord with that of Barry Allen, doing exactly was the OP said.

Good example.I wasn't aware of this. Thanks for the tidbit Donnie.

Not saying I prefer it but, for Smallville at least, Nightwing could replace Batman and/or Robin.
