Hello to all!

I have recently decided to drop trinity. I didn't dislike trinity, but I didn't like it enough for me to spend 12 bucks a month on it. I was thinking of picking up one or two DC monthly titles instead and saving a little more a month. I don't know too much about DC. Right now I'm reading Batman, Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps (probably my fav dc book right now), and final crisis. What DC titles would you guys recommend? I'm open minded about trying new books/characters. I'm considering nightwing (i bought the first issue of the great leap arc, since I like tomasi on GLC, and enjoyed it) and possibly one more title.

Tomasi's been doing well on Nightwing, as far as I've heard, so that would be a safe bet.

Personally, I'd recommend Blue Beetle over just about anything else DC publishes outside of Vertigo.

Tomasi is doing great on Nightwing so go for that if you like GLC.

Blue Beetle is amazing so i have to mention it.

JSA is still fun but I don't know how new reader accessible it is - probably not very.

I'd reconmend both Superman titles they are both quite different but good reads (even if can't stand what Johns is doing with it).

If you're reading and enjoying "Final Crisis", and if you're reading and enjoying Geoff Johns' work on "Green Lantern", you might want to check out the current mini-series, "Final Crisis: Rogues Revenge". Not sure on the availability of the first issue, but the second issue should still be on shelves. It's probably the most I'm enjoying anything in comics right now, though I'm liking all the titles you're currently reading too.

i'd say give Detective Comics and read. lately it's been really good and it's helping out a B-list villain become a-list.

exactly. "Heart of Hush" is a really good story. It's sort of my introductory to the character of Hush, cuz i never read Batman: Hush. i just heard bout the character that was it.

You didn't miss much. Hush was basically an excuse for Jim Lee and Jeph Loeb to play with all of Batman's villains, and it read like it.

Thanks for all the advice!

I think I'm going to stick with Nightwing. I'm going to check out an issue or two of blue beetle to see if I like it. Would blue beetle be a good bet even if I know absolutely nothing about the character?

If you can, you'd probably be better off saving up for the first Blue Beetle trade, called Blue Beetle: Shellshocked. The current Blue Beetle is a new character, and everything you need to know about him is set up in the six issues that trade covers.

Is this the blue beetle that was in infinite crisis?

Yep.

Blue Beetle is a good choice, and I'd also recommend All-Star Superman. It's not an ongoing, but that'll just make it easier on your wallet; there's 11 issues out already and the last one is coming next week. It's really one of the best Superman stories ever. Checkmate was also an excellent book, but that's pretty much dead and buried now. Still, I'd recommend picking up Greg Rucka's issues (#1-25) because they're really damn good.

Superman/Batman is better than everything anyone else has mentioned that is still coming out today, with the exception of All-Star Superman.

I'd recommend the Superman titles right now. Johns and Robinson are doing some downright amazing work right now.

Detective Comics is also pretty damn good. My only problem with the Batman books is that they aren't as coordinated as the Superman books with Morrison, Dini, Nicieza, and Tomasi are pretty much all doing their own thing. Not that it's a bad thing or anything.

Since you like Tomasi and are reading Final Crisis, why not check out Final Crisis: Requiem, it's a one-shot and it's really good if you're into the Martian Manhunter and felt a little cheated about his death.

I forgot to mention, I am already reading All Star Superman.

Thanks for all the help! I don't think I'm going to get detective comics, since my library has a subscription, and I can just go over there and browse them for free. I might check out some of the final crisis tie ins, since most of them are only a few issues long and wont cause a huge financial strain. Thanks!

Is the Robin title worth picking up, and if so wheres a good point to start.

It was good when Dixon was on it, can't comment on it now.

the Robin book is usually really good... I say Tim was probably better in the 90's to mid 2000's, only because nowadays writers like trying to keep him in batman's shadow...
but pick it up anyway just to see how you like it!

I think something you all need is: THE QUESTION TPB's

2 out so far... 4 more to go COLLECTING d. oneil's run

Yeah, well it's ending :cmad:

Yeah, its a bummer. I actually started reading it because I randomly picked up issue 11 because it looked interesting on the shelf of my local comic store. I loved it, and bought all the back issues, and absolutely fell in love with it (it has my favorite art out of any comic I'm reading right now). Then I found out the next issue is the last. I'm glad I caught it before it finished.

BTW, a few questions about morrison. I don't know too much about DC continuity, so final crisis makes no sense to me. Is it making much sense to you long time DC readers?

And another side note, but have any all star superman fans also read the morrison/quietly run on new x-men, and is it worth reading?

Thanks!

Nicieza has been doing a good job of continuing on from Dixon, so I'd recommend Robin.

Jonah Hex.

Every month Jonah Hex is one of the best comics I read - I can't believe how good the series is and I'm so happy that DC have let it continue without massive sales figures.

That's exactly why I hate Robin right now.
