Do you think J.J. Abrams is the best man for the job? I mean don't get me wrong I sorta like Lost and Alias was interesting... but based on what I heard about his work with major franchise *cough*Superman McG draft* I don't really think he is a the best man for the job...

Yes, J.J. is the best man.

He is dedicated to getting Star Trek right.

I think.....I think everyone knows what I think about this actually, lol.

I think Trek belongs no where but the tube. And, even worse is this is remake of sorts :whatever:

"Aw, I can't think of a new Trek ship and crew in five seconds. I know, remake!"

No matter what you think about JJ's Superman script, you have to remember these three things:
You've never actually read it
The only person who has is from AICN and you know how trust worthy they are
There is more action in it than there was in half of Superman Returns.
So yeah, JJ Abrams is still the man.

Prequel = Crap, no matter who directs it.

I think it could be interesting and I kinda like the idea of seeing Kirk and Spock again, but it's just... too soon, to be launching a new Trek project. The franchise needs to recharge for a while.

All Trek really needs right now is a lot of time off, breathing time... like there was between the Original Series and Next Generation. Wait a good 10 years at least, then relaunch a new show with a whole new look, new cast, new tech style, etc...

I think the plus side for JJ is that he can write/direct good action scenes with some nice drama thrown in occassionally, engaging characters, and keep stuff moving at a fast pace. One of the downsides with his work on ALIAS, and from what I heard about Lost is that his stuff can sometimes fall under the weight of its own complexity or convulted storylines.

With Trek, I think he will craft a pretty good action film with just enough emotion to elevate it above mindless. But I doubt that it will be deep or profound sci-fi, or tackling any social issues. It will be a feel-good popcorn movie designed to appeal to the largest number of people possible-which has pluses and minuses I suppose.

At first I was pissed at the whole redoing Kirk and Spock thing that I heard Abrams will do. But now I look at like who cares? It doesn't erase the 40 years of previously established Trek, on screen, comics, cartoons, or books. And even if it does, it doesn't mean that I have to go along with that. I like what I like.

I'll give Abrams's film a chance because I liked the early years of ALIAS and I thought MI3 was a blast. But I'm not expecting much.

The Next Generation still had more to give so I'm not up for this at all.

Imagine what they could have done with a good Picard/Q based story ... TNG is the peak of Star Trek and they only got one good script/movie which is a damn shame.

I don't know I have a bad feeling about this idea.

He has a really interesting, distinctive style and I think we need a Trek movie that isn't just a long episode...as the last couple have been in my opinion. Both Lost and Alias feel like movies each episode in my opinion.

Okay, now imagine a TOS era story, told in the stylings of TNG, with the character work of Alias & Losts best episodes...

That's going to be one hell of a friggin Star Trek film.
