Dave Grohl is one of my heroes, he is amazing at what he does and he is such an amazing person. Except people have different views on him.
Some people say he's an overrated rock-star,
Some say he's and a**hole,
Some say he was sent by god (I think he was lol)
What's your opinion on him?

Dave Grohl's awesome. Foo Fighters is a great band and obviously Nirvana is what it is.

I've never met him so I can't say for sure he's an a-hole or not. I'm glad he's still going strong. He seems to be cool based on some of his actions of late. I wish I could have taken advantage of the little impromptu concert at little local venue and the mega show at the stadium on July 4th.

Can't say if he's an ******* or not, but he sure seems like a nice guy and he's an incredibly talented musician.

Foo Fighters >>>> Nirvana

I always viewed him as the McCartney to Cobain's Lennon.

Dave Grohl is definitely awesome. Here are a couple of my random favorites.

Dave on Craig Killborn doing Elton John's Tiny Dancer(it's kind of long, but worth it).

And if you haven't seen Dave's band Probot, you should check them out. It's him on drums with different lead singers. Best one(my favorite at least) is called "Shake Your Blood," with Lemmy Kilmister on lead vocals and bass guitar.

Fans wanting the FOO FIGHTERS to play in a city in Italy that hasn't had the Foo's there since 1997,[YT]JozAmXo2bDE[/YT]

And... Dave Grohl's response:[YT]txEUgZR-luU[/YT]

I'm not a huge Foo Fighters fan (their music is alright, I enjoy it without being a big fan or anything) but Dave Grohl to me has always seemed like one of the coolest and nicest guys. He may be a bit of a walking stereotype in the way that it feels like he is the typical 00's rockstar embodied, but he always comes across as nice, down to earth and just great.

Dave's a genius musician and one of the best frontmen in all of music today.

I think Dave Grohl is one of the most talented musicians out there. It's a real shame about today's music overshadowing bands like his. Foo Fighters new album Sonic Highways was just absolutely brilliant. I might be a little biased since they're my favorite band of all-time.

Sonic Highways consisted of 8 songs, each with someone from a music genre. Guys like Zac Brown, Joe Walsh and Gary Clark Jr.

I think this .40 second video of Dave and his family walking down the street with paparazzi in his face says it all.

Foo Fighters >>>> Nirvana
I love both bands but this is simply not true even a little bit.

Nirvana is considered one of the greatest bands of all time. Their music completely changed the world and the course of rock music.

Foo Fighters is a great band, but they don't have that legacy, critical acclaim or the impact.

IMO Foo Fighters have two great albums (first two) and then the rest of the albums have a few good songs, but those albums aren't near perfect like the first two albums.

I'm not sure that's true at all. How did Nirvana's music completely change the world?

Foo Fighters have more musicianship. They brought a finesse and style to the scene after Nirvana and its imitators did their best to remove it. Nirvana's mantra was like punk rock's. They hated everything that made rock an actual genre. We'll mumble when we sing, we'll strum power chords only, no intricate guitar solos, blah, blah, blah. Nirvana's music was bland and boring. Foo Fighters are much more dynamic. And without Cobain's love of minimalist music shunning Grohl's talent, they just sound better.

Nirvana is essentially the 90s version of Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Rolling Stones, or the Beatles. Nirvana is legendary status. Kurt Cobain is a rock god in the same category as John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, etc;

Nirvana's Nevermind not only completely changed the course of rock music, that album changed the world. Smells Like Teen Spirit is frequently ranked as one of the greatest songs of all time. And Nevermind is now generally considered to be one of the greatest albums of all time.

You're allowed to dislike Nirvana, but you can't underestimate their success. Foo Fighters just haven't made the same impact. That is partly because of Kurt Cobain's death, but Nevermind was still a hugely influential and popular album well before Cobain's death.

They are both great bands. FF's best work was definitely in the 90s/early 00s though. Both FF and Nirvana are easily two of my favorite bands.

And there is no doubt that Dave Grohl is EASILY the greatest front man in rock n roll. Not trying to take anything away from Dave, he is a hero of mine, but Nirvana is legendary at this point like the Beatles, Doors, Rolling Stones, or Zeppelin.

Having success and being legendary isn't the same thing as having talent. As I already stated, Nirvana's approach to rock was a stripped down sound with mumbled lyrics and over distorted guitars. I never denied their success, but their boring music was uninteresting to me. They didn't even sound like they were interested in it.

But nothing you said validates your earlier statement they they completely changed the world. In what ways has the world changed due to Nirvana?

Nirvana killed hair metal, Nirvana pioneered and ushered in a new fashion style and music style, Nirvana influenced/still influences millions of kids, Kurt Cobain is a legendary idol for millions of people. They are literally one of the most popular and influential rock bands of all time. Do you really need to ask how they changed the world? The answer to that is extremely clear. It's like asking how the Stones or Zeppelin changed the world.

Your own opinion on Nirvana is clouding your common sense.

Yes, because the world is bigger than rock music and grunge fashion.:huh:

All the problems that existed in the world before Nirvana exist now. Saying [insert band name here] changed the world is one of the most narrow minded statements a person can make. No band, song, tv show, piece of art has ever changed the world. To think that based on the fact that it gave a few misguided high school kids an identity is ludicrous. The world is bigger than you. Your ego is clouding your common sense.

And for the record, thrash killed hair metal.

Wow. Did you really just say "No band, song, tv show, piece of art has ever changed the world." ?

can't believe I'm even having a discussion with you after statements like this. I'm out. To each their own.

I think the guy's a blast! It was very nice of him to respond to the big call for the 100s of musician's invitation.

Having an Italian background, it was so amazing to hear Dave Grohl say his message in Italian! Too everyone who's saying he is an a-hole, it's true, but he's a likeable a-hole. Here in Melbourne, Australian, they came out in February and before playing under pressure a couple were brought on stage and the guy proposed to the girl and after Dave was like "Congratulations! Now get the f*** off my stage!" Him being an a-hole is part of his humor, he's an awesome guy in general, I remember there was also a video online where he let paparazzi's follow him to his apartment and was actually converting with them. He's a really awesome guy!

I've never been that into him. I mean, he seems like a good dude and he's talented. But aside from a couple Foo Fighters songs and of course his Nirvana stuff, I've never been that interested in his material. He has a huge following though, so good for him.

Don't know who would call him an *******.. I've heard nothing but nice things about him. Seems like a really cool guy.

I used to love Nirvana and worshipped the guys. But I don not listen to any of Nirvana's songs now...
