Transformers What do you think of the Transformers?

What do you think of the designs?

  • AWESOME! They couldn't be better!

  • CRAP! I'd rather watch a stop-motion movie of the toys!

  • They're OK...

  • I'll wait to see more of them

Well, to be honest I'm starting to get more and more depressed whenever I see new movie images leaked to the general public. I think I'm just going to skip out entirely on this movie. At least my creative mind is still functioning. Through my fanfics I can and most likely will create any stories I'd like I think would make for a better movie because that's what we creatively driven type people like to do. I just need to look for some willing TF artists who would like to work on conceptual art for me.

I'd probably wait until you have seen the next trailer before you make that choice, at least get a better idea of the movie.

Well, if they retain the Starscream and Guyvertron looks that we've seen for most of the movie, I'll not see it. Maybe a sequel will be better.

I'll wait until I see some pics of the FINAL versions that confirm either pure-crap or sorta-crap before I make any real judgement.

But until then.....

Well, I'll have the Sims 2: Pets to distract me soon until the final designs are announced officially.

Well, in order for me to create a little poochie with your personality, you'll have to tell me what personality traits to fiddle with when I get it uploaded onto my PC. ;)

Yeah thats what I will do, just giving some advice for someone who has already given up on it.

Prime is pretty decent overall...Bubmlebee looks very creepy (not dissimilar from when one "skins" a Furby).

Megatron, however, I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND. He looks way too, I dunno...organic? I can moderately understand the original ideas someone threw arounds (Megatron transforming into a tank), as it lent the movie a slightly more "realistic" feel)...but the movie design looks a little too anime for my personal tastes.

However, and I know I'm going to sound cynical here, this movie is all about merchandising. The action figures aren't going to be marketed towards the people who grew up on this, as we're primarily in our mid- to late twenties. This is going to be pushed upon the kids, who would honestly find Megatron's old boxy look hokey. They want big and flashy, bar none.

I am curious, however, to see how they animate such an overly complex character, with all those little metal "tendrils," without it looking stiff. Looking at the designs, it's almost difficult to see his joints, so I'm wondering how it will look in full motion.

By biggest concern, ultimately, is if the story will be any good. I'm not expecting Citizen Kane, but I want it to at least make sense.

Well, I could have saved myself alot of pain and bitterness if i didn't use that misguided philosophy concerning GINO and Scooby Doo. CINO, well, I sacrificed myself for the good of my fellow CINO haters.

Well, that would have saved me from the anger factor of Scooby Do with it's pot insinuations and fart jokes. If I was into the Sims back then, alot of Sims would have perished because of my wrath.

Yes because Scooby Doo was such high brow art:huh:

So far I have no complaints about any of the Transformers. Prime looks great and just how I thought he'd look and I have no problem with the changes made to the other characters.

The thing is I want things to be different to before. I still want Prime, Megatron and Transforming robots, but I'll welcome any changes and improvements the filmmakers make.

I grew up on Transformers but I am no longer a child. They're not an interest to me any more like they once were - I've outgrown them basically. What I'm hoping this film will do is show me something new that I can find an interest with again. It's Transformers but it's also new and fresh so I'm not spending my life wishing things were just like they were in 1984.

I have mixed feelings about them. On one hand, I think they're really cool designs but on the other, they just don't look quite Transformers enough. It seems like they're taking the creative licence thing too far sometimes. Though, I'm not quite made up on whether I like them or not..I have to see more pictures and them in action before I decide for good.

I'll wait to see them in motion and how they interact with their surrounding before casting judgement.

plus having a decent voice actor will always make the difference

I could be wrong but it appears Bay and Co. are going for a live-action anime robot look. Ambitious for sure, but the biggest problem I have with this film is really not the robots.

It's Bay. The guy's track record speaks for itself. He has nothing special to any of his credits...so why in the world would you give him a major property like TFs? Oh, stupid me, of course, to make one of his typical quick-cash-in-summer-blow-everything-up-last-for-one-week-at-the-box-office-then-dissappear into obscurity-movies.

Why do they insist on hiring the wrong directors for these types of films? Is the talent pool for artistic fantasy directors so shallow in H-wood? Or are they just afraid to give some real artists a chance? Better still, is H-wood still afraid of investing heavily in the scifi/fantasy genre despite the obvious success the genre has enjoyed recently?

I don't get it.

1. this isnt made to be just one movie............its made for a franchise.

2.spielberg

To be fair, who would have thought that Sam Raimi would have brought us those masterpieces. (Me! That's who! I love the guy!)...

Seriously, I'm all for giving Bay a chance. My only problem is that all indications are that he hasn't matured one iota. He's still the same crappy filmmaker with the skills for eye candy, but no real substance. This was his chance to make a Cameron/Spielberg-esque *real* sci-fi movie for the ages... but instead he's giving us another product placement filled, cliche-ridden, unoriginal fluff piece. It's a shame.

1. So was Godzilla 98.
Sequels were put into motion before the movie was even released. Only to be rudely halted.

2. Agreed.

I don't think anyone sets out saying, get me the worst director possible. I think they take the director that will take the film. Sometimes the studio will go out of it's way to get a specific director. Sometimes a director will come to them. But, I think most times, they just take the director that will do it. They might not be the best one for the job, but if they're the only one that will do it, what choice do you have? I think a good example of a great director not wanting to direct this movie, is Spielberg. For some reason, he's not directing, just producing. I think rather than just flat out bash Bay, you should question Spielberg.
