What effects (if any) would "SUPERMAN: DOOMSDAY" have on the fate of the Superman Sequel/s?

The release of the Superman: Doomsday dvd is upon us... It would be naive for one not to assume that studio heads would be watching over the reactions and reviews on this dvd movie

Will this have any effect on the development of the Superman sequel/s? Or will it just be ignored? Will they be going "nahhh...we'll be doin Superman OUR way...f#ck the cartoon!" or will they go "Ohhhh...so... it should have been done...THIS way? I see..."

(i know some of you will be hopping to the shops this week to buy this dvd... i, on the other hand...since i live in a 3rd World Country where Piracy is rampant, I would be checking out the dvd blackmarket to find if they have a copy already, hehehehe)

I dont see how a direct to DVD animated movie has any effect on the million dollar budget franchise.

IMHO the attitude of "f#ck the cartoon" has been prevalent for quite a long time - outside of the character embargoes with "Smallville", I don't think any of the higher-ups at WB pay attention to the cartoons; otherwise, why would be getting the Justice League back in animated form on "The Batman" so relatively soon after they cancelled JLU? Plus, considering the mixed reviews "Superman: Doomsday" is getting - not to mention the scorn that "Brainiac Attacks" (rightly) earned from fans, whatever influence it would have on what direction WB takes the Superman franchise next is still questionable. I mean, c'mon...if WB had respect for the animated branch of the franchise, we wouldn't have gotten half the silly crap that appears in "Brainiac Attacks"...plus they've had plenty of time in the past year to gauge how Superman should be done, since they've still got at least ONE cartoon on the air with Superman in it (Legion Of Superheroes).

Absolutely none at all.

Its an animated movie; and it were live action itd be 100 trillion billion million dollars to make.

If it came out at the theaters no doubt would they want to see how the BO is for it but since it is direct to DVD I don't think it would have any affect on MOS

If an animated should have an effect in any Superman movie,it is IRON GIANT.

They should let that guy make a Superman movie. IRON GIANT to me was just a BIG TRIBUTE TO Superman. Brad Bird i think its his name.

Why does this, deserve its own thread? Its beyond me. :o

it is beyond you because:

A. you never easily understand these things, kiddo

B. you have a special kind of hate for me just because i don't like Singer's Superman and you have been trying so hard to throw out any form of shallow childish mockery, which doesn't really work because, in the long run, you never really give out a valid point, except for one-phrase punchlines which are reminiscent of spider-freddie

What effect will a straight to DVD cartoon have on a studio's decision to release a potential major summer tentpole? None. A Justice League movie on the other hand...

Spider freddie .. bwahahaha. I haven't heard that name in ages. Brings back memories. :woot:

Anyhow, yeah, I don't think it will have any effect. Even if it had an amazing story with great villans and incredible use of Superman's powers, in other words, even if it was perfect, I don't think the suits at WB have enough brains or forethought to pay any attention whatsoever. jmo.

Very true.

Agreed.

Some effect if the Doomsday’s DvD out gross the 150 million dollar budget franchise’s DvD.

I purchased all of the animated series DvDs.
I purchased all of the Smallville volumes.
I purchased SUPERMAN the movie I-IV.
I purchased the old 1948 & 1950 Theatrical Serials.
I purchased "SUPERMAN: DOOMSDAY" DvD for $16.00 and purchased the pay per view version for $3.99
I refuse to put $.01 towards the SINGERMAN franchise.

Why must people insist of bashing Singer's film now?

Just people trying to jump on the already left bandwagon.

Note: Credit me if you choose to use such a phrase and try to pass it off as your own.

Exactly!

Actually, Batman VS Superman got it's start because of the animated Batman/Superman movie. And JLA is taking a lot of it's influence from the cartoons.

Since many people were happy with more action in this movie compared to Superman Returns, there might be more consideration towards action in the live action franchise.
