Although it has been stated that the new Star Wars movie will not be based on the Expanded Universe, is there elements from the Expanded Universe you would want to see in the next Star wars film?

Who said it won't be base on EU..?

I hope they try to stay true to the EU, a lot of it is really good. Though, I'd be fine with them retconning some stuff like Chewie's death.

I mostly want them to feature characters from the EU, not necessarily storylines. And I'm all for retconning some stuff. Although post-RotJ EU stories are pretty tied, retcon one and it all goes down like a domino.

I'd like them to keep the characters from the EU. Don't mind changing the stories.

I'd use the notion of more jedi/sith in hiding

-Mara Jade
-a Fett character, either Boba or a new clone

As off right now? I'd only take Han and Leia getting married and having Jaina and Jacen.

Yeah I figured you'd leave a particular other character out of it hehe. ;) But the twins would be nice to have...although considering what happened to them I dunno.

Wait weren't the books, cartoons (clone wars) considered canon with the films? Since there was never really a plan to do any films after ep 6, there hasn't really been any need for discrepancies, so long as they followed the continuity of the events followed by the films..so now that ep 7 is going to happen the stories would likely have to gel with the EU books, no.....?

We need Kyle Katarn. Retcon everything else if you have too (although Mara Jade and the Solo kids would be welcome), but please give me Kyle.

Nahhh there are different levels of canon:

Movies/Holiday Special/Shadows Of the Empire/Force Unleashed> Cartoons >Books Novels> Video Games> Dark Horse Comics >>>>Marvel Comics

The film makers haven't been afraid to contradict canon or force retcons to the EU. Originally Boba Fetts real name was Jaster and he was a former imperial troop, the Emperor was in power durring the clone wars and princess Leia was present as well, oh and Lukes fathers name was "Tan Skywalker". Anything we know now is up in there air if it wasn't on the TV series or part of a major lucas release (shadows/force Unleashed/Clone Wars).

I posted this elsewhere but here's a very brief idea of how all that fits:

Star Wars Canons:
G-canon
: Geroge Lucas films canon. The be-all, end-all official. This of course probably changes with Disney in charge, but you get the point.
T-canon: TV canon. Follows the films, and is endorsed and has some creative input from Lucas. Higher than all EU material.
C-canon: All EU that is considered currently in continuity. If Lucas/Disney decides to overwrite something, they can and it sup to the authors/fans to sort out the inconsistencies.

A few things I want:

1. I want this to be firmly n the original trilogy era. Even if it takes place sometime at ROTJ, I want the grungyness of the OT, not the perfection of the prequels. I want worn down star destroyers, hardened storm troopers, etc.
2. At the very least the film needs 3PO and R2, although Chewie could also return at a minimum
3. That being said, it really needs a Skywalker. Without one, its hard for me to call it Star Wars.

On a related note, I wonder how this film will gel the classic mythology with the added lore of the prequels. Will cloning arise as a topic, for instance?

Yeah no. That is the one Star Wars thing that Lucas is ashamed of. EU stuff that has been said to be non-canon (like What-If comics) are more likely to be canon than the Holiday Special.

Indeed! lol.

Never read anything from the Expanded Universe. But I found out in the other Thread that Boba Fett actually has a daughter. That I wouldn't mind being carried over into the Movies.

Sadly though, she wasn't a Mando her whole life. Boba didn't even know he had her until she was in her '30s (maybe '40s).

That could be changed for the Movies though. I just like the idea of him having a daughter. We need more tough and capable women in Movies.

I'd be fine with that, she hasn't been a major character in the EU anyway. Now if they retconned the Solo kids or Mara Jade...THEN I'd be pissed.

I'm feeling like the gist of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion could work.

However the Yuuzhan Vong have to be tweaked. They need to be less horrifying and grotesque...yet it could work.

There was a fan made animated trailer that showed Mace Windu alive in the post ROTJ era. For some reason, I dug that. It wouldn't work now with Darth Maul being alive. That angle is played out.

I respectfully disagree. Darth Maul was one of the biggest wastes of a character Ive ever seen. I know they brought him back in the comics, tv, and videogames so I feel you there. But I think actually seeing the real deal again would only benefit the story, as he did nothing but benefit Episode 1. But to your other point, Seeing Mace Windu in the same movie as Luke Skywalker would be wild!

In regards to the thread. I agree with the sentiment that there has to be some type of Skywalker presence, even if its just in passing. However, just the mutterance of the words "Bane" or ""Revan" would be enough of an EU nod for me. There have been some reeeeaaaly good Star Wars stories told on a pretty big scale in the past couple of years with "The Force Unleashed" and "The Old Republic". Those were completely Original stories. Im hopeful that they can continue the trend in the new films.

Haha really? it's not like he's that enduring of a character.
