To set the time frame,20th Century Fox is about to make X-Men 1 and they ask the comic book fans, "Do you mind if we take the uniforms away from the characters and make them look more biker like? We think primary coloured uniforms just won't work."

Fan would no doubt answer, "Stick to the sorce material you bastards!"
