I'd recently bought the entire series of Angel on DVD - when after re-watching just the first few eps, I realised how there could've easily been a Batman series done in similar likeness to Angel. If people are saying that a Batman live action television series rated M-18 would never work, there's no reason why Angel would've made 5 seasons without getting campy and still have fans.

It's amazing how many nods the script-writers of Angel gave to Batman -as though they would've made a Batman series, but because they weren't given the chance, they had to settle for Angel.

And parents are always complaining about violence, WB always afraid to lose their younger fan-base, and yet Angel had week after week its share of bloody scenes, not to mention having its key characters dying, and still that worked well.

So why wouldn't a modern day Batman television series work? Or if capes and disguises doesn't work on tv, a pre-Batman-Bruce-Wayne television series featuring Wayne travelling the world, fighting crime, growing as a detective - a Smallville equivalent, but one that I can see would make way better stories.

What do you think?

I'd love to see a new Batman show! After they complete the Batman Begins trilogy, I think they should make a live action Batman series in the vein of CSI. With the tv success of both Smallville and Heroes as well as graphic novels like The Long Halloween and Hush, Joeph Loeb be up for writing/consulting chores if it ever gets off the ground.

I think an Angel style Batman, with the tongue in cheek nature toned down a little more, would work out fine. CSI style feels too serious and bland for comic book stories, even a serious Batman show.

I doubt WB will do it, there is Nolan Batman movie series.

Well there's Singer's movie, AND Smallville.

A Batman series on HBO, with seasons spanning Year One, LH, DV...

Sweet sassy molassy.

The costume's just wouldn't work on the smallsceen. The duget would have to be huge to do it any sort of justice. I think that batman belongs on the bigscreen.

I see your point but I still feel that if they used more CSI/street level stories it could work. While a show like Smallville occasionally is disapointing due to the lack of Clark being able to have too many all out super fights, it does fine with the budget it has. A Batman series, which would cost less overall, I believe could be done satisfactory.

it wont happen because WB has stated multiple times that, unlike superman, they dont want batman to have too many different forms of the media character. When JLU was still running, wb made it so they couldnt use any batman villians anymore because of the new series called the batman. And, throw batman begins in there, all in all it would be too much and WB would not like it.

Perhaps a cameo on smallville is apropiate for batman.

I would love to watch Batman on small screen while we wait for Nolan's Dark Knight to hit big screen.

yeah ang angels opening would've been perfect for a 20 year old bruce causing havoc in gotham.:woot:

Oh, so that's why the infamous embargo.

What about after they stop making movies and the Batman animated series ends though? Could a live action series be green lit then?

I always though that David Boreanaz (spelling on the last name sorry) would have been a great choice to play Batman if they ever did a Batman live action tv show. And if done right it can actually work, they don't have to have the off the wall special effects every single week, a great story and great characters will carry a show to greatness, I would even go as far as having a Bruce Wayne/Batman style type of show similar to X-Files, now that was a great show, it lasted almost ten seasons.

Perhaps if they take the elements that has made Angel, C.S.I. & The X-Files successful, it could work with a Bruce Wayne/Batman show, something I would rather see every week for 5-7 seasons than a big blockbuster movie every so many years! With a tv show they can tweak and get it right over time, just like Smallville has had it's great seasons and it's so-so seasons and episodes. You put the right people on the project and it would be Batastic!

I say they cancel The Batman and make a live action show that's like Angel...and by "like Angel" I mean I want it to have Spike in it :o

I agree. With a television series, the producers would have more time to properly introduce each character and build up on their history so that we, the audience, will have a more indepth understanding of each character than just rushing through everything in a 2-hour span of time. I mean it works with those one time action movies where you don't care to know the reason for why a character does what he does, but not for a well known series of comics that's spanned close to 70years, and a bunch of characters that've each had their own histories written to the finest details by various individuals. Just a waste to ditch all that potential.

^ Amen to that statement Cats

And I think that is what is wrong with Big Hollywood movies all around these days anyway, they focus so much on the main character of a film, and by the time they get around to the main villian of the film, there is never enough time to do it right, so they rush it and it makes for a bad film. Most film critics are saying the same thing over and over again about this IMO and something needs to be done so us as viewers can actually care and feel for such villians or atleast get to know what they are all about.

For examply the latest Rocky movie was pretty good, but one bad thing about the film is they touch so little on Mason "The Line" Dixon that you really don't care for the guy, and the sad part about his character in the film is that he could have been great if done properly and given a bit more screen time, because the little they did let us in on with Mason, you wanted to know more.

umm, no. We don't need some batman tv show in the vein of angel (which is utter trash by the way).

you like The Batman but you dont like Angel...you really arent very deep, are you?

The Batman is animation. Animation is an art form deeper than the substance of shows like "angel". Get it together will you.

BTAS was a much more superior animation than The Batman. Animation with plots, written by studio execs with no idea that kids have brains, still make for a bad series, sketched or real life.

Yes, The Batman is far different than BTAS & while the latter is better suited, new interpretations keep things fresh & it's always interesting to see new takes on classic concepts. Sadly, you can't please everybody.

Dear god no! I dont want to see bruce/batman on Smallville and I sure as hell don't want to see a lame ass live action show like Angel.

No man, we were discussing the brutal contrasts of The Batman to Batman the animated series. I totally agree w/ you that a Batman *smallville* or Batman *angel* would be ridiculously obscene.:batman:
