What if WB/SINGER approach Routh for a sequel to Superman Returns and he said no?

What then?

He can't say no, he's contractually obliged to star in at least 2 sequels. He has no choice.

Almost every movie like this has the actors sign a 3 picture deal.

Nobody can force him to be in it, it's not like a gun would be held to his head, but he would be sued, and his career if it's not already over, would be over.

He'd be tending bar for most of his adult life.

Fielding questions from drunks about why he can't just use his super breath to make the drinks cooler.

Those'd be some purdy insightful drunks, seeing that he never took the role of Supes to begin with.

He was asking what would happen if Routh turned down the sequel to SR, not SR itself.

I don't see why he would say "no".....He loves Superman, and it would only help his career to continue. Besides, he's under some kind of contract.

I'd say: thank God. Now if we can only get rid of Singer....

Then we do the dance of JOY! :woot:

We could only be so lucky...

Those of you that want Routh to say no (not that its gonna happen cause he has a contract)....Who would you choose?

In 2008? With a change in directors as well?

Hmm... lemme think about it. I'll get back to you in the morning. :hyper:

What if Routh said no?

CATASTROPHE!

He can't say no. He's Superman!

That wouldn't happen at this point.

That would be like Tom Welling saying he would be Superman after so many times saying he would not be in the suit. I don't see it happening. Routh is a fan of the character itself, and regardless to the opinions of the more outspoken Wellingites. In my opinion Routh's just as worthy to play the part of Superman as Reeve and all those who came before him.

But if he did say no. I would go with an unknown. I wonder if Matt Bomer would still want the part?:oldrazz:

First off, as a few have said. He can't say no. He is contractually obliged to star in 3 Superman movies. One has been made which is Superman Returns. So he has two more to do. So does the rest of the stars. I am not for sure if Noel Neill or Jack Larson has that same contract. Since they have made their history with Superman by having Noel Neill who was the original Lois Lane and Jack Larson being the second Jimmy Olson. I don't think they have to make a sequel unless they want to.

If the cast said no they careers as they know it would be over as it was started. I wouldn't know why would they say no for. Brandon Routh did a wonderful job as Superman. It is just that alot of you really didn't give him a chance and thinks that role should go to Tom Welling or some other creep. For someone to play Superman he has to be a unknown like Christopher Reeve was. That is what made Superman: The Movie so great. When you see someone who is known all you will see is that star and not Superman. Brandon Routh is Superman now if you like it or not. Get over it. Sorry to be so harsh.

Well said. A lot of people just like to complain because it is not their Superman or that Brandon "ursurped" the role from Tom Welling. What bothers me about the Welling factor is that everyone says he has experience playing Superman. He's not Superman no matter how many Smallville fans wish him to be. He plays Clark Kent, so I see him more along the lines of Stephan Bender and Jeff East more than Routh, Reeve, Cain, Reeves, Newbern, Daly, Dark, and Collyer.

At one time I thought it might be a good idea on Welling for the part. But then I remember that Richard Donner and Even Christopher Reeve said that an unknown is the best way to go. As soon as his face got plastered for Smallville, that went the other way. Plus Tom is supportive of Smallville staying on the air while the Superman Movie Universe is on the Silver Screen. So that would nix Welling out immediately because he doesn't want to his show to end. Nor will he put on the tights, mainly because of the fact that he doesn't want to be Superman. He has not said that directly, but the fact that the show not being about the man in the suit said a lot to Tom, and he wasn't a big fan to begin with.

If Routh said no. I see there being a very hard time like there has been for the past two decades to bring a Superman Movie back on the screen. And as much as I know that people would wait that long for another one where it was how they made it would be worth it. Here is what I say: Go to college and take film courses, make a few TV shows, and then direct a couple of movies and then when a few get critical acclaim for how good they are. Then go make YOUR Superman movie.

What sickens me with the fanbase these days minus the complaining about Routh to Welling to Reeve to Cain. Is that they are torn in what they think Superman should be. Heck I am sure if Superman were real he would pull us all aside and say why are we even bickering when we should be trying to show support for the movie and the character good or bad.

Superman will always be interpreted in many different ways and has been for the past 68 years. He has been in some strange stuff like Broadway Musicals. Good Stuff like the Adventures of Superman, Superman: The Animated Series, Max Fleischer Presents: SUPERMAN, The Donner Films, Smallville. And bad stuff like Superman III

But if anything I would not pay 10.00 bucks to see Tom Welling as Superman. He is too known and I am sure that it would get him typecast. Which he does not want to do with his career. And I don't want to see a known actor like Cavil, O'Hearn, Warburton, or Nic Cage because they bring too much baggage into the character.

I would like an unknown like Reeve or Routh because when you see an unknown you are seeing them for the first time and they are the character because you can't base them on anything else. I don't think anyone known could do that as Superman.

I am Superman fan.......period. I will admit that when I first heard about Superman Returns that I was like - The only thing will make it good is being a Superman movie. The story line seem for me to be a little weird. Even for Lex Luthor. Then when the first teaser trailer came out I thought that it might have a chance after all. Then I saw the trailer and I was thinking that it might be a good movie after all. I heard people saying that they didn't like it for some reason or another. I saw it and thought it was a great movie and rank it after Superman: The Movie. But people still complains on one thing - they should of pick someone else. Well, at least Brian Singer is smart. He took Richard Donner's idea of having a unknown. People wanted Tom Welling. I have never seen Smallville but I have seen clips here and there and he plays a good Clark Kent but I don't think he would play Superman that great. I grew up watching Superman: The Movie, Superman II, Superman III, and Superman IV. Christopher Reeve play a good Superman but he is not Superman. George Reeves played a good Superman but he is not Superman. And so on. Superman is the one in the comics that has been around since 1938. That is Superman. Superman himself has not made a movie yet. Only actors played him. That isn't no actor playing Superman in the comics. I might be one of the few Superman fans who like the Kirk Alyn serials. Yes, you don't see Kirk Alyn fly and see a cartoon fly in its place minus close up shots. But I see it this way. In Look Up In The Sky - The Amazing Story of Superman - a man is quote that he heard from so many people that they was disappointed in those serials because you did see Superman fly. Um, you do see him fly, you just don't see Kirk Alyn fly. That is so dumb saying that you don't see Superman fly. When those serials comes out I will buy me a copy of them since I love those serials. Kal-El Reeve said that he wouldn't pay $10.00 to see a Superman being played by Tom Welling. Man, if the movie is free I wouldn't go and see it. When I saw Superman Returns, I noticed little kids in the audience. When I look in their eyes and seeing Superman on the big screen. That moment is priceless. That is there hero on the screen and not some known actor. Brandon Routh and the rest of the cast did a great job in the movie.

Next, something that I don't understand is that if some of you hate Superman Returns I have a question. Why would you want to see the deleted scenes? Do you think it will make a great movie, better? Some said that they wouldn't put it in there collection. Then I would say that you are not a Superman fan.

That's what I am first and foremost. The Comic Character is the real deal. The actors just play the role and bring something to it. When they said that the movie was finally greenlighted under Singer and Routh's pic was released. Some people on the site said that Welling was this "generation's" Superman. I had to laugh since the fact that Newbern was playing Superman in the animated universe and Welling is just young Clark Kent on TV.

Siegel and Shuster's version is the real deal. I mean sure he has changed here and there, but even as actors come and go. The character is still gonna be around on the panels of comics long after we are gone from this world.

I still wondered how screwed Chris Reeve would have been if the Internet was like it was now back in the 70's

Internet was in the 70s but only for government personal. I had a RadioShack Coco Computer that had internet on it when I was a little kid. But that is off topic. I know what you mean though. I think the Superman fans would do the same thing as they are doing to Brandon Routh. Tom Welling is NOT this generation's Superman. Maybe Clark Kent but not Superman. I don't see him fly around in the suit at all. Newbern did a excellent job of providing the voice for Superman in the 90s animated series. Superman really isn't made for TV anymore because it usually will fail for some reason. The 90s animated series only last for wht three seasons but they were good. I guess it fail so it can boost Justice League to be on the air. If anyone is this generation's Superman it would be a tie between Newbern and Routh. For years Superman fans wanted a movie and when they finally got one the fans trash it.

Fans wants either a new director, new Superman/Clark Kent, new Lois Lane, and so on. Brandon Routh looks to young to be Superman. Well, so did Christopher Reeve but you all love those movies. George Reeve was in his 40s when he played Superman but you won't find anyone like him. The Adventures of Superman made Superman look like a greek god. George had the look of a greek god. There isn't anyone who looks like him. Not even Ben Affleck look like him and he played him in Hollywoodland.

I saw in a thread that how come they pick some like Brandon Routh and this movie takes place 5 years after Superman II. Shouldn't Superman look a little older? Um, no because Superman doesn't age like normal humans do. Oh, Brandon Routh is only two years younger than Tom Welling. So what is the difference. Tom Welling would look to young for Superman as well. So in all of your minds you can choose between someone who looks to young to play Superman or someone who looks to young to play Superman. Hard choice since both are to young to play Superman. Brandon Routh is Superman and he will play Superman in the sequel so I guess it will fail in the box office since people doesn't like Brandon Routh. The next sequel after this one might be the final Superman movie that we will see in about 15 or so years.
