Ororo Munroe aka Storm is black. But the scan below tells us she is something else.

So what if Marvel officially declares that she is a mixture of all races?

Would you accept it?

I would burn the Marvel offices to the ground!

"All races" is a pretty large order to fill. That's a lot of races.

On the other hand, maybe (and I'm just speculating here) Storm has a unique set of genetic mutations that give her her appearance. You know, along with her two black parents.

Even reading those panels - she's still black, but due to her mutation their "genetic scanners" are like "wait... wtf is this!?" and malfunction. Not because of race but because she's a mutant.

Yeah, that was my take too. Although what the hell kind of "electronic scanner" are they using?

All? Maybe you mean 3.
How deep did writers dig into the history of Ororo's parents story?

The kind of writer saying "I don't know what name or for what exact use."

It's just nonsense. Then again, race is a fluid somewhat artificial concept (certainly at the boundaries) so "a mixture of all races" isn't a particularly helpful concept.

If you go back far enough in a persons genetic history then you'll find all sorts of 'races' mixed in. I suppose a mix of 'every race' wouldn't be impossible...

As for how I'd feel? Just another weird move by comics.

Yeah because there are too many popular, black female superheroes already.

Marvel is not that stupid, it would never happen, not even in a "What If?" story.

Also, that picture was from the 80's (I think) when Storm had been reverted to a child before meeting Gambit. I doubt they mentioned anything even similar to it in the years between that coming out.

Also, RLAAMJR. Have you read Storms Bio at uncannyxmen.net? I can't remember if I sent that to you in a different post. It's pretty thorough and was updated August 2014.

Maybe the writer making fun of how the artist can't draw Storm looking black. Because otherwise, this is really dumb.

I'll check that later.

Well, if she will be a mixture of all races, she still is dominantly black.

I've always had a problem with Storm being the face for black characters at Marvel so i'd be cool with it.

Why is that? Just curious. Is it something about the character herself or just how she has been used in some books?

I feel like if you want to promote a black character it should be one that actually has black/african features. I have nothing against storm besides her look.

While I agree there, most artist do give Storm black/African features.

Storm suffers from the same affliction as all black comic book characters: artists who have no idea how to draw black people. She had it bad during the 70's and 80's. It's slightly less severe these days.

I've recently read some early Monica Rambeau Captain Marvel appearances (including her first appearance), and I think she was drawn well as a black woman, and it appeared to be more consistent than some Storm appearances, where she often looks more Asian or Middle Eastern, or a brown-colored white woman.

The reason Storm's eyes looked slightly Asian-like in her early appearances is because Storm is a recycled character design. When they were designing the All-New All-Different X-Men in the 70's, they were originally going to use a black woman named Black Cat who had were-cat powers. Hence the cat-like eyes. Why are they blue now? I'm going with "eurocentric ideas of aesthetics" on the part of the artist-- and I'm guessing that's the same reason her hair is so straight.

I HATE it when DC and Marvel mess around with long established characters! Leave the background, gender, ethnicity and orientation alone! It screams lack of creativity!
