Has anybody checked out the What If...? Avengers Disassembled that came out yesterday? Spidey's featured pretty nicely in the beginning, but of course in typical What If...? fashion, [BLACKOUT]he bites it like a chump, in a panel that requires you to really search for him, no less.[/BLACKOUT]

Has anybody noticed every single What If...? comic that features Spider-Man in any way has him either die quickly and extremely lamely, or have his life even worse than it already was? And before they start, of course I understand the exception being the introduction of Spider-Girl, and the new issue wherein May is killed instead of Ben. But there was no Watcher in that book, so who cares?

It could be that's the only alternate universe Spidey that doesn't completely and utterly blow for him. Even in the Exiles, Peter Parker is either a complete *****e, living in a horrible reality, or dead. I would just, for once, see Spidey get out of a universe-shaking ordeal that kills select Marvel characters in a What If...? or alternate reality book and go, "Whew, that sucked for like, everyone who didn't have a spider sense.

I'm sure What If...The Other? will be ridiculously depressing and terrible. I don't know. Just venting, I guess.

Um if I recall correctly, What If 19, What If 30, What If 46, What If V2 31 and What If 42 were all happy endings for Pete, so you might want to check those out.

But other than that...

7. Peter kills the burglar and renounces his powers
21: Life gets ruined by JJJ, after saving Gwen
4. Killed by alien symbiote
17. Gets shot and than eaten by Kraven
20-21. Felicia gets killed and MJ leaves, but he appears to be happy with the Silver Sable at the end of the issue
25. Becomes a sea monster and gets crushed by the Hulk
26. Shot by Punisher after his identity is revealed

More to come...

There's one where th' watcher left he's a respected hero, but not Spidey. Forget th' number.

The BIGGEST downer issue was "What If Peter Parker's Parents Destroyed his Life" or something like that. The reanimated parents kill Aunt May and MJ and the police suspect Peter, reveal his identity, and he ultimately gives up to Captain America and others. But that is true, there are a few other happier ending ones.

What If? 42: Peter actuallly saves Gwen and defeats all his enemy's, but has to remain with six arms for the rest of his life.

What If? 44: The Punisher controls the alien symbiote as a force of good, Spidey never has to deal with Venom, and the Kingpin, as Fisk is killed by Punvenom.

What If? 53: Pete kills the Lizard and Billy Conners becomes one himself

What If? 58: Punisher kills Spidey with a bomb, and than kills all his villians for him.

What If? 61: MJ and Aunt May are both killed by Robots who than proceed to publically announce Peter's identity. Peter destory's both robots, but not before they turn back into human forms.

What If? 72: Peter kills the burglar and turns himself in. He gets released years later, and Aunt May is there to greet him

What If? 76: Peter defeats a Flash Thompson version of Spider-Man without any powers. Doesn't recieve, Spider-powers, and MJ is killed by the burglar because he was home instead of wrestling.

What If? 82: Peter and JJJ eventually fight crime together

What If? 86: Benjy boy off's Pete and than assumes his life(Posted somewhere in the Reilly thread)

What If? 88: Peter gets lynched by a mob, after turning into a spider-monster. Gwen die's in this universe during child birth(Pete's kid not Normans :cmad:)

What If? 99: Peter is unmasks publically

What If? 105: Spider-girl and MC2, Peter lost a leg during a battle which killed the Green Goblin

What If? 108: Carnage is killed, but so is the Silver Surfer(And alot of famous cities and monuments)

What If? 114: Peter is a skeleton, the Symbiote has full control.

You're right, all ones regarding Peter suck...

I think you missed one though, (although it's got little to do with Peter,) which issue did May get (I think it was,) The Infinity Gauntlet?

Is that the one with Black cat, and that Scorpion thinks that Flash is Spidey?
Pete unmasks in front of JJJ
If so that was a better unmasking than the one "in Continuity"

Back in "the day" unmasking at all was bad news bears :csad:

I am convinced that What If...? is Marvel's way of saying to the fans "See? Aren't you glad that things turned out the way they did?" Even if the fans AREN'T glad for it.

but now they've turned 616 Spidey into a What If? fest...
What if Gwen did the nasty with Norman and had kids...
What if one of said kids tried to seduce Peter...
What if Peter died and was reborn a "spider-jesus"...
What if Peter became Iron Man's sidekick...
What if Peter unmasked in front of national TV...

They'll What If? The Other where things go slightly different and turn out leagues worse than they did, and then my theory will have more evidence.

That is such a crock. Wolverine should have no chance in hell against Spider-Man.

Apparently Wolverine's SO POPULAR, and his fans SO MILITANT, Marvel's afraid of having something like Spider-Man being the one dude who can beat Wolverine, even in a stupid What If book. I'm sure the reality is, Spider-Man fans will argue amongst themselves that Wolvie would never lose to Spidey, but Wolverine fans will write, call, scream and yell that "the best there is" is no match for Spider-Man, and Marvel will do anything to avoid that.

The reality of course is, forgetting the whole "power level" comic shop BS most fans whip out faster than a comic con pass in San Diego, Wolverine is just a lousy character. Even with his "Origin" in place, Spider-Man is still more of a -timeless- character. An orphaned rich boy with mutant abilities who lives forever with a metal endoskeleton and a chip on his shoulder who isn't even allowed to smoke cigars anymore, is kind of small potatoes when you compare it to the story of a young man who learns about responsibility and himself on a daily basis.

Yep... Spidey's spider sense only works when the writer wants it to...

how does wolverine get out of being webbed against the wall? isnt spideys webbing stronger then steel? wolverines claws arent going to do any good when there pinned against a wall

did anyone read the "What If...The Other?" that came out today?

it's interesting.

i like the ending.

Read it, hated it.
At the end he... goes back into a cocoon. I guess. Anyway, here's a repost of my thoughts from this weeks bought/thought:

What if... Spiderman: The Other. - the short short version? Nothing happened. Seriously. Peter killed the Spider-god, the Symbiote fused with him while he was still in the rebirth sack. He turned into a crappy Venom called "Poison." and found Mary Jane. "I can make another symbiote, be a freak of nature with me." "No." "Okay." That's. It. Oh, and we get the standard Peter David whining about god through one of his characters. Don't waste your money.

Considering how
she would have rotted to a skeleton by now, this makes the issue even lamer than I originally though. Also, Peter had to do the whole "rebirth" crap because of the Spider-god, so the symbiote shouldn't have been able to do jack.

it's a What If...it doesnt have to make sense, it's just a throwaway story to be enjoyed and forgotten...seriously, I dont see why you're hatin on it so much
