What is going on with the blackknight?

With Hero's for Hire he had the enchanted armour and shield and sword and he was named by the lady in the lake the pendragon the champion of Avolon. Now in Excaliber he still has the armour but is using the ebony blade. Did Marvel explain why they did this change or not? Is this more of Marvel smoking crack again?

I think it's a different Black Knight than before. They picked him up in Camelot.

The original black knight spirit takes over the modern, his ancestor, black knight, dane whitman. When they go back in time they the original black knight jumps back into his own body and Dane is Dane again. So yes and no, it's a different black knight but the same black knight at the sametime. If that makes any senses.

The black knight appearing in the current issues of Excalibur, is the same black knight that appeared in Heroes for Hire. Yes, Marvel is smoking crack, as they have both Dane and the Black Panther using the ebony blade at the same time.
