I just came to think of how the media have affected our lifes, books, movies, all of them have a great influence on how we think and why we act like we do. -- I've heard of that books and movies have changed peoples live styles dramaticly.
And I started to think, what books that I've read or movies that I've seen have affected me the most ... When it suddently hits me, the only two big influces I've had were animes and mangas ...

When I was about 8 years old I saw my first Dragonball episode, I was in Poland at my gandmother and grandfather's house ... Since it wasent much to do (imagion an old house with old furnitures, pictures and so forth) the only thing I could do was watching TV, they didn't have so many channels, but some times there popped up a cartoon, which imideatly cought my attention, most of the cartoons were quite boring, ´for kid's´ I thought, however suddently I was watching my first anime, Dragonball Z, the episode were the one where Bejiita, Son Gohan and Kurririn got beat up by Ricoom, after that episode the following episode came up, I liked how this character ´Son Gokou´ - Thought his name was ´Zongo´ cause that was how it was prenounced ...
That's how I started to like Dragonball, and the years passed.

About 3 years ago, my room was filled with Dragonball posters, my sheet, my pillow and even my alarm clock were products of the same corperation ...
I also had all the episodes and movies (on english - because Sweden never released it) and all the 42 volumes of the manga, I also had the viz-manga (english as well) and the manga in romajii.
- Yes I learned Japanese just because I liked Dragonball so much.
- I even got attached to Sushi, Noodles and other Japanese food.
- And to be like Gokou (or at lest close) I've run 5 kilometers did 50 push-up's and 50 sit-up's each day.

Now it's Death Note, not as much though :o

Nice thread.

DBZ influenced me the most.
It was my very first anime that I got heavily into.
I was (and still) a huge fan of it.
I love everything about it. (even though it has some flaws.)
DBZ revolutionized the action cartoon forever.

Anime:

Urotsukidoji, the first anime I watched showed me how sick the Japanese can be and I love it. (although not an anime Battle Royale also is SIIIICKKK!!!)
Cowboy Bebop really influenced me on how the Japanese can make American qualities in a toon good
Dragonball Z, showed me how you can actually push yourself to a potential you never thought possible
Rurouni Kenshin, showed me that a child can learn through cartoons their country's history and Japan is rich and full of it.
Saiyuki, the history, the modernization mixed with ancestral rituals and characters made it fun to watch
Manga:
King of Hell, has a seriousness about the world being taken over, yet the main character has a goofy funny side that appears out of nowhere, a fun read

but then again it's just the imagination of adults, which I find very inspiring in this effed up world.

Tenchi Muyo OVA and Tenchi Universe because it hooked me on anime and still remains my #1 series....well, minus Tenchi in Tokyo and GXP.

...as for as anime influencing my life, uh...they're cartoons.

1.DBZ- dbz change reality for me, as soon as i first watch it, i wanted to work out all the time, and thats why im in shape:oldrazz: and its also one of my first anime that i ever watch and my favorite. this show is legendary!

2.Tenchi Muyo- i first watch it on toonami, i loved it and soon as i started watching it, they stop showing it on toonami.:csad: then i forgot about it and somebody told me that the new ovas were out, and i watch them and got hooked. Other reasons i like this show is the characters and their personalities, espcially Ryoko's:oldrazz: But i love Washu the most. I LuV Washu:heart:

3.Digimon/Pokemon- i like digimon better, but pokemon is what started me on playing card games, like ( magic gathering cards, yugioh cards, pokemon cards and even digimon cards) but ofcoarse i got to old for those, than i started playing the gameboy games for pokemon, like (red, blue, yellow, gold, silver, versions). And i also loved the pokemon games for nintendo 64.

i'll post more later.

No offence but I am presently tournamenting myself through this God forsaken anime (OVA) ... There's nothing good about it at all ...
Jokes: All jokes are lame sex-jokes ... :csad:
Chicks (Major feature in this anime): Lame, it's the kind of anime where the eyes are covering 1/3 of the face ... Each :wow:
Powers: Wierd cosmic powers, pretty lame as well, all the great once are just statements ´We created the universe´

No offence here either but: These are the once I liked in 3rd, 4th and early 5th grade.
The only movie I still find quite good/interesting is Digimon X, since it's all animated.

your point being?

again, your point being, what?

Sucks terrible to you.

Of course, I could say you're lame because a few cartoons changed your life in the same way people felt Seinfeld changed their lives. But it's not true. If he likes it, he likes it. If cartoons change your life, they change your life. No real problem with each.

Either way, none have changed my life.

Forgot to add that ...

Maybe I am (lame) ... To you ...

Either way, none have changed my life.
... Not even affected? -- How you think, why you act like you do, ect?

You're not lame. People pick up inspiration from all sorts of places.

And no, I'm unaffected. Most of the "questions" they've posed are questions I've thought about for years, and some ideas are things I've studied before. Limits are something I've always pushed, teamwork is something I've always treasured and supported, mental thought is something I've always stressed, learning and such are things I do recreationally. And I usually consider worst case scenarios personally, so most don't suprise me. That, and anime's tend to follow the rubric of some form of lead character who's dumb as a brick, and spreads his dumb as brick style of life to super serious characters who tend to be twice his age somehow teaching them the purpose of life somehow, and then usually just overcomes every little thing in some form of extreme effort, gaining something from nowhere. Digging deep is nothing new for me, but I usually don't do it in the "head on" fashion. So there's nothing really for me TO learn from it.

And I act like I do mainly from nature/nurture/choice. I never really saw an anime and said, "Maybe I should have this outlook..." If some people do, that's fine. Most anime writers tend to have fairly good ideas about life and views, but none that I feel are worthwhile to adopt for myself.

Dragonball. every series.
It gave me a new look on life. A positive one. Son Goku is a VERY feel good Character.

And also Coboy Bebop. It maid me want to be a bounty hunter :ninja:

Mistress Gluon! SSJ4_Mikael!
Chill! No Need For Flameing!(anyone get that?)

I"m not flaming him, I even said he's NOT lame. And then went on to explain why I'm not affected. He wasn't even argumentative at the end of his responding post.

I only argue when people become abrasive with me, or are already abrasive.

Akira -- I still remember walking into that Blockbuster in 1990 and seeing that amazing cover with Kenada holding the laser rifle. It was the first movie I watched, rewound and watched it again. It was my foray into anime. I searched for years for another anime that even approached that level of greatness. didn't find it until Evangelion. 17 years later and Akira is still as amazing as the first time I watched it.

Lone Wolf and Cub- Even though it's entirely fictional, it's one of the best Samurai sagas I've read.

I got hooked on Anime when I was 5 years old and Saint Seiya was the chosen one... now I'm 20 years old and damn I don't like Saint Seiya that much...

You know? Anime never changed me to begin with... Anime has been a part of my life ever since I can remember...

For me, it is Dragon Ball. Because of the DBZ series, I register into a martial art class. Besides that, my mental is also influenced by the Batman. Dual-personality I mean.

Hahaha -- Now when you said it, it was the reason that I joined a Tae-kwan-do class :woot:

For this one, it would have to be--of course--Dragonball. I can still remember when I saw my first episode (it was on Toonami, the episode where Vegeta was using the 'Spirit Gun' to blow the Namekians to kingdom come).

These day's though, I am being awed and wow'd by the greatest Manga of all time, One Piece. Eiichiro Oda has created a legendary masterpiece.

This one has also been intrigued by Death Note, a great read.
