Recently the popularity of fantasy properties adapted to television and film (a la Twilight, True Blood, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter) has been gaining momentum.

I personally would love to see either Michael Moorcock's Elric or Salvatore's Drizzt Do'Urden in a motion capture CGI fantasy (in the vein of Beowulf). I think it would be difficult to do live action adaptations of these properties in particular but these characters and their worlds would be well represented by that medium.

What fantasy series would you adapt and how would you do it?

i thoroughly enjoyed this book and think it could be transferred well to a movie

or may a 3 part tv series. it was something new and different and took some turns i did not expect. to my knowledge i dont think ive read a story like this one

Weave World by Clive Barker.

A proper, big-budget adaptation of "A Wrinkle in Time".

The made-for-TV movie from a few years ago didn't count. :down

Roger Zelazny's Chronicles Of Amber
Michael Morcock's Elric
Piers Anthony's Xanth series
Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter Of Mars

I hear Elric is currently in negotiations....

Something more adult. I'm sick of these kiddie friendly fantasies.

Stephen King's The Dark Tower
King's/Straub's The Talisman and Black House
Stephen Donaldson's The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant
Clive Barker's Abarat series could be a great series for the young adult audience, whenever Barker finish it.

I'd love to see the King/Straub books make it to screen. I preferred Black House, but you can't really have that without the other - well, I guess you could...

I would like to see:
Scar Night/Iron Angel
MEG
Gridlinked

I think we need a break from fantasy books for a bit, because we're starting to see more mediocre ones than good ones. As long as it doesn't involve anymore wizards in training or kids who have powers that they don't know they had, I'm good.

Robert Jorden's " Wheel of Time " series...
Raymond E. Feist's " Riftwar saga " .........

Robin Hobb has a few trilogies I think could work as a series of films.

Great suggestions, I'd like to add "The Chronicles of Prydain" by Lloyd Alexander. Sure there was the 1985 "Black Cauldron" but that wasn't as good as it could have been (which is not to say it didn't have its moments).

I'd like to say A Song of Ice and Fire, but that's already being turned into an HBO series, and I think it would work better that way.
I'd like to see a faithful version of Wizard of Earthsea.
I read the book in high school and was obsessed with it, and was VERY disappointed by the Sci Fi movie.

Well Stephen King's The Dark Tower (miniseries) and Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter Of Mars (Pixar) are being worked on.

Oh man a Dark Tower series would be great. I keep waiting for a good supernatural western. Jonah Hex is looking less and less likely and I heard about one called The Wretched but haven't heard any news recently.

Something to think about. How would the story you're suggesting best be realized? Animation, Live action? A movie or a cable series?

I think with the way made for cable shows are blooming and budgets increasing, an epic produced by HBO or Showtime isn't out of the question. Shows like Dexter, True Blood and Rome demonstrate that content is not an issue and high quality production is possible.

Dark Tower for example needs a hell of a lot more screen time than say a movie trilogy.

Not to mention that most fantasy movies lately have been box office flops, or at least disappointments. While there are some stuff I'd like to see (like those I've mentioned in my earlier post), at the same time I'm a little sceptical if those series could be successful enough as movies for whatever movie company to make them want to film all the books in the series.

There are also some great sci-fi series that might have potential as movies and I wouldn't mind if that became the next trend

For Sci-Fi I would love to see David Brin's Uplift Saga adapted to film. I just don't want to see the Sci-Fi channel anywhere near it! BSG was a fluke. Everything else those bastards get a hold of turns to crap.

It's gotta be Pratchetts Discworld books... The Sky One Specials were a good idea and evrything but i wanna see the full-on, big budgeted cinematic Discworld experience with Hugh Laurie as Rincewind!

I've wanted the Shanarra series adapted for a while, and I'm extremely excited to see how Elfstones turns out.

Besides that, I wouldn't mind Jim Butcher's Furies of Caulderon books adapted.

A Song of Ice and Fire - George R.R. Martin

The Word and Void series - Terry Brooks

 The only good Fantasy movies that I have seen are the first second and thrid LOTR's. I haven't cared about anything else out side of that series.
