I have the choice of pleasing myself by putting it towards an HDTV or pleasing her by investing in a diamond ring.

Which would you choose?

How big a refund are we talking here?

I'd invest in the diamond ring. HDTV's are getting cheaper by the week. You could wait. Hopefully.

Do you have a 360?

If so, HDTV

If not, HDTV and a 360

get the HDTV...even if she leaves you,she won't get your TV.

If you even have to put it up for debate... go for the T.V. because obviously you care for it more than for her.

(Frankly though, I would probably be using it to pay of my credit card bills).

The greatest analogy I heard about how much to spend on an engagement ring is "the amount of money you feel comfortable with, stuffing in a duffle bag, lighting on fire and throwing them out the window".

Why don't you give a little history with your girl, how long you've been dating her and such? There is a girl though right? You aren't single just buying a ring just in case you finally meeting someone?

Not necessarily. Many people happen to think that relationships are worth more than expensive rocks.

Yeah. I'd go for the TV, but if I was your girl (which would mean I'd have to grow breasts and ditch my penis) I'd dump your ass if I saw this thread.

And prove once and for all how shallow women really are.

No. The fact of this isn't the ring. The fact of this is apparently his love for her isn't strong enough to overcome a TV. A freaking TV that you can buy any day.

If you really want to marry this woman, you shouldn't even be questioning whether you'd rather get a ring or HDTV.

Economically speaking, the ring. Diamond prices are growing rapidly and HDTV prices are dropping.

However, I say the tv because I'd hate for this poor girl to marry you when you're questioning whether or not marrying her is more important than a stupid tv.

Indeed. After posting this thread he should just get the TV. The fact that he is questioning this shows what he wants the most

It's this sort of mentatilty which infuriates me. I'm sure that they're a pretty stable couple, and no ammount of trinkets would make any sort of difference unless you're one of those insecure types that walk around with the price tag still stuck onto your dress.

He should be able to do whatever he wants with his money without some bint getting all angry because he wouldn't buy her shiny rock that she can use for bragging rights with her friends.

I would quite happily purchase a nice gift for a girl with money that I have saved up specifically to buy the gift with, and not because she expects it of me becasue I came across a little extra disposable income...

And the dick of the week award goes to....

It's not the ring. They are either already engaged without a ring or he thinks he loves her enough to become married to her. If it's the later god help him, because he obviously doesn't if a TV is even in his thoughts at the same time as her.

It's not about the rock it's about the notion that a TV, a trivial thing is even in his thought process as something as important as the girl he think he loves.
