Homecoming What should they do with the Spidey franchise? - Part 1

Hey! Levi's back.

Knight got banned.

I agree with this and it is coming from a neutral POV too.

Look at how Michael Keaton is still praised as one of the best Batmen. We had Val who did look much more like Bruce in the comics, had a film that actually focused on Bruce and Wayne Enterprises, but his film wasn't as good.

Because Tobey was Spidey for 2 great films, people like him. Sure he gets made fun of for the third film but how many good third films are there? All I could think of is Indy 3 & Jedi.

Andrew's films have been mixed. If Andrew's films were praised, he would be more beloved as Spidey.

^ Agreed.

I just want to see a simple Spider-Man movie with Peter going college and would have somebody like The Vulture as the villian

I think that has more to do with what people thought about sm 1-3 compared to asm1 and 2. If asm1 and 2 where consider has good of movies has sm1 and 2 and yes even 3 has i think more people like 3 compared to asm2 I don't think this would even be talked about at all.

Eh, I don't think so. Maguire performance was often cited as positives even when their were criticisms about the films themselves . I know there's this myth among fanboys that people didn't like Maguire , but the fact remains Maguire himself, was well recieved and popular ,and his take on the role is what earned critical praise from critics, the GA, and fans alike.

You be'd be hard pressed to find people who didn't like Maguire's performance at that time save fanboys who didn't like his look, organic webstooters, The lack of Spidey quips etc. After Spiderman 3 you basically had a segment fanboys rewriting history and that the GA didn't like Maguire. However, for people like me who were old enough to be aware of the popularity of Maguire and those films, you know that wasn't the reality at all.

He really did connect with the GA at the time on an emotional level the way Chris Reeve did as Superman. I know alot of fans don't like that or try to say that didn't or shouldn't have happened ,but it did. The films were successes and we would have gotten a Spiderman 4 save the fact that Raimi backed out , so its not as if Sony felt Maguire and SM3 was so bad they were willing reboot the series right off the bat.

I mostly agree with you, but most fans I've asked say they still prefer Garfield to Maguire, as do I. Which isn't to say that they think Garfield's version is perfect or that Maguire's is awful.

Keaton's Batman is a perfect example

Outside of his funny expressions (especially looking back at them now), it's hard to find much criticism for Maguire as Peter. I was mentioning in the lounge yesterday that even scenes such as the "Raindrops" sequence from SM2 captured Peter perfectly. I really wish there were were more scenes like that in the current series, but I don't intend on starting a comparison debate.

It may have also been the context of the situation the U.S. was in as a country at the time, but I always back up Maguire when he's brought up.

In regards to Garfield, I have faith in him - just not the people behind him.

The next film is gonna feel the impact of TASM2 bad will on opening weekend even if it is good.

For me the reboot failed big time. Already the first Amazing movie was bad - in every way! (including both main actors)
So it was no surprise that also the second movie failed...

The whole concept behind the reboot was wrong. Bad story, bad acting, bad dialogues (horrible) did not help also...
I did not see any good acting from Garfield, no chemistry with his girlfriend or his grandparents.

As the actors are surly good ones, its maybe time to find a different director or screen-writer! ;)

It is very difficult to say what they should do now!
Another reboot would be a big problem, as they (did) have big plans for the franchise.
Changing the main actors would be also a big problem - would not help in the end.

I think they did the right thing to delay Amazing 3, give Spiderman a break to recover, and try to win the audience back with Sinister Six.

But the real problem is, that they have to find a way to convince the people with their story and with their characters.
There are so many main problems with both Amazing movies - failures at each "corner"!
THAT is the thing they have to sort out!

New screenwriter(s) is/are a must.

I'm not having any more of this Orci & Kurtzman ****.

Orci and Kurtzman broke up from what I've heard so a change in writers seems very likely. And I can see Drew Goddard doing some awesome things with sinister six as long as sony lets him do his thing. If sinister six is good (or if it even happens) I hope they keep him in house

It's happening, Sony already said they felt confident putting it in the November slot with Goddard at the helm. It seems unlikely at this point they'd can it to sell Spidey to Marvel.

Yea it seems like a sure thing. Sony just never strikes me as confident when it comes to spidey as of late. I'd hate to see it get canned though honestly, just cause Goddard quit show running Daredevil to work on this film, and I think he has a lot of potential.

That's actually one of the reasons I think they haven't abandoned ship yet. I don't think Goddard would have left without definitively knowing they're going through with S6.

Maybe...

Really, I just want Sargent back.

The guy's 87 years old, maybe he's not the best fit for a young smart-alecky superhero anymore. I'd like someone like Nicole Perlman, who wrote the first draft of GOTG that impressed everyone, or one of those young people with cool ideas whose specs make it into the Black List. The character needs fresh blood badly.

I wonder what a Spider-Man movie written by Aaron Sorkin would be like....

I just wish Goddard was working on a proper Spider-Man film, none of this Sinister Six crap, and is in no way tied with the current Amazing Spider-Man films.

(and I'd like it tied into the MCU, but you knew that)

Don't get me wrong, I'm so glad we got the Raimi spiderman, but I always wondered what the James Cameron spiderman film he pitched would've been like had it took off. His ideas sounded so rad! And I personally think he's a great filmmaker, and was at his prime back then. And I heard he was eyeing Leonardo Dicaprio for Peter, which May or may not be true I didn't fact check that
