Probably something like a sinkhole with a disturbance of water being the cause.

First, they need to see how deep it goes, if any suspicious objects inside, hopefully not bottomless. Some news already calling it bottomless are irresponsible journalists, since no scientists has reported investigated it yet.

Then, forensic science to determine what caused it. What traces of chemicals, and elements are in the area. Why wasn't an explosion detected, was it not on a scale such as earthquakes? Or was it some kind of secret government project they don't want people to know?

Either way, I don't think a giant role on earth all of sudden is good sign unless the earth is really shallow. It is definitely a cause for concern, and nothing to joke about.

We humans are destroying earth each day! This well could be the result of global warming at the least baffling.

Judging from the area around the hole, it looks like an explosion. But nobody detected an explosion, and with something THAT large it should have been right away. It also looks like something punched a hole right out of the earth.
