What Titles Should I Start Picking Up

::sheepishly admits::

I like Amazing Spider-Man: Brand New Day as well.

It's not perfect, but it's fun, typically has great art, and is a "classic" version of Spidey updated for modern times.

I never read any of JMS's Spider-Man - it may have been good, but it seemed awfully dour. And while One More Day was...jarring, for sure, and not very good storytelling, the end result has pleased me.

Aside from the name, Mr. Negative is a good new "Kingpin" type. The new villains are hit and miss, but at least they're trying new ideas and being adventurous.

I was a voracious collector of Spidey when he first proposed and later married Mary Jane. I loved those issues and the subsequent stories with McFarlane on art. Never in a million years did I think they would still be married some twenty years later. I'm glad they didn't kill her, and a messy divorce would have been more real-world but less exciting. What they did was really odd, but I like that Peter can date again (I always liked when he was messing around with Black Cat myself)

Go with the gut. Stick to the favs of yours. If you branch off too much you'll get lost. Better to have it all than a little of a bunch I think..

..Sometimes I pick around though. You never know what you'll find...

Captain America, Skaar: Son of Hulk, and Iron Man: Director of SHIELD are amongst the best Marvel titles to consider.

Daredevil is immaculate. You'll want to dig up about a year's worth of back issues to get up to speed with the current story, but it's worth it.

If you're into Iron Man, then get Invincible Iron Man. As Kraven said, it just started, and every issue so far has been awesome.

I know... but it's tiring.

Especially at a time when people might want to pick it up and judge for themselves whether it's good or not, yet they probably on't for fear of being ridiculed by "internet peers" that they buy a comic.

I am very aware that there are tons of crappy comics out there, but that's my opinion, because said crappy comics may be enjoyed by other people with different tastes than mine...

And in this delicate day and age where a comic book's shelf life depends on sales figures, I don't see the point in making fun of ANYBODY for reading ANYTHING...

In fact, we should NOT discourage anybody for the books they buy...

Good stories will (for the most part, as far as the Big Two go) dictate good sales, and hopefully, good sales will mean more stories/comics about a variety of characters that we might not normally see in comics...

It's a sensitive issue with me, because I remember being made fun of back in 1982 because all the "cool" comic book kids were reading Frank Miller's DareDevil and I was liking Spider-Man, Batman, Captain America & the Hulk... and reading Batman in the early 80's was not as "cool" as it is nowadays...

I still remember those feelings, and I'd hate to think that I would bestow upon a fellow comic book reader/purchaser those same crappy feelings.

They're not nice...

Anyway... end of TMoB's rant.... :yay:

Have a nice weekend....

Mike

You can't seriously be suggesting that you're afraid ASM's going to suffer any tangible lack of sales because I make fun of it on the internet. I'm sorry if you were picked on when you were younger, but I'm making fun of an inanimate object here and, frankly, I think you're being oversensitive. It's still selling near the top of the charts every month, so obviously those of us who dislike it here are a vocal minority. Why not just take comfort in that instead of worrying so much?

Definitely X-Force. Love it. Also, Thor is a great read. Guardians is okay so far...missing something, though, not sure what it is...maybe needs to be a little more chemistry between the members (that is, aside from Quasar and Adam Warlock...). Those are my top three reads from Marvel right now.

Deadpool (first issue is great, IMO.)
Daredevil
Punisher MAX
Punisher War Journal:hehe:

You should start getting captain america (but first read all of the trades). I have friends who just jumped on with issue 25, and they are truly missing out. I really like invincible iron man (you'll definitely like it if you like the movie). Iron fist is great too. A lot of people recommend daredevil, but I'm getting that in trades so I don't miss anything. Fantastic four just changed writer and artist (mark millar/ byran hitch) a few months ago, and is only like 6 or so issues in, and I love it, and it was really easy to jump on to (i had never read fantastic four previously)
