::sheepishly admits::
I like Amazing Spider-Man: Brand New Day as well.
It's not perfect, but it's fun, typically has great art, and is a "classic" version of Spidey updated for modern times.
I never read any of JMS's Spider-Man - it may have been good, but it seemed awfully dour. And while One More Day was...jarring, for sure, and not very good storytelling, the end result has pleased me.
Aside from the name, Mr. Negative is a good new "Kingpin" type. The new villains are hit and miss, but at least they're trying new ideas and being adventurous.
I was a voracious collector of Spidey when he first proposed and later married Mary Jane. I loved those issues and the subsequent stories with McFarlane on art. Never in a million years did I think they would still be married some twenty years later. I'm glad they didn't kill her, and a messy divorce would have been more real-world but less exciting. What they did was really odd, but I like that Peter can date again (I always liked when he was messing around with Black Cat myself)
