For all intents and purposes, the Disney-Fox deal closes, everything goes according to plan, what do you suppose is going to happen to these two X-Men shows?

The Gifted, I don't see how that can play out in the MCU, but I can see them making Legion work since it's all a mind screw anyway.

What do you guys think?

This is a good question that I’m still trying to figure out how to answer.

My best guess is that both Legion and Gifted both eventually get canned, and Disney will likely spin-off new X-Men related tv shows now set solely in the world of the MCU.

...Unless Disney retroactively tries to fit both shows into the world of the MCU which I just don’t see them doing since it might create some severe continuity blunders with not just the Marvel Cinematic Universe but the television/Netflix shows Universe(which all share the same continuity).

They should keep Legion running as long as it maintains good ratings/is acclaimed.
They're going to orphan the six Netflix shows from ever being acknowledged by other Marvel live action once they become a Netflix competitor anyway. Still, The Gifted may need to be cancelled to keep things straight. But if, say, Xavier's new actor is 45 during filming, we can pretend that Legion started 15 years in the future and all the retro stylings are part of David's schizophrenia.

I mean Legion only really used the Shadow King and hints at Xavier, it can be salvaged.

I don't know what they will do, but if they cancel The Gifted just because it's not in the MCU, that's just going to make me resentful toward the MCU.

"Oh, you're watching a show that's not in continuity with our other movies and shows? That must be so confusing for you. Here, let us cancel that show you like so you can watch our other stuff without any pesky distractions." Uh, f*** you?

AOS is the only Marvel show that tries to be in continuity with the cinematic MCU. And even that is more "It's not contradictory!" than "It's all connected!" I could see Feige and company putting restrictions on what characters are available for both Legion and The Gifted, but there's no reason to cancel them.

Frankly, I don't see Legion as being the type of show that lasts for more than four or five seasons anyway if they let it run its course. I see that one sticking around since they might want to play ball with Noah Hawley.

The Gifted, on the other hand, I wouldn't miss at all if they cancelled. It started out strong but I got gradually bored by it until the end of the season when it got a little more interesting again. People might whine about it for a time if it got canned but they'd move on soon enough. It's far from perfect television.

I hope they continue both, but especially Legion, which is really damn and they could just explain it’s set in the future.
