The Dark Knight What Will TDK's Rating / Certificate Be?

Ya I have not been a fan of Hostel or any of those flicks. So I have a feeling I would enjoy this movie. Especially since it is more of an anti-gore horror

So the original writer/director is remaking his own film for American audiences? Sweet, saves me the time of reading subtitles. :o
The original "Insomnia" (swedish, I think) was much better than Nolan's remake with Al Pacino and Robin Williams. Sometimes you miss out on a much better film by just waiting for the Hollywood remake. Anyway I can also understand some people's aversion for subtitles. To each his own.

A film is more powerful if you can really understand what they are saying. But it doesn't always hinder it look at City of God.

You didn't like Insomnia? Well I didn't see the original though

I don't have a problem with subtitles at all. And I understand your sentiment about remakes.

But in this particular case, the original writer/director is coming back to do the entire thing again, but this time in America. If this were a different guy working on it, then I'd be more inclined to see the original. Since it's not, I think I'll just wait until this new version comes out.

I completely agree with you and I liked Insomnia very much but I thought the original one was superior (mostly thanks to Stellan Skasgaard who's playing the Pacino part and who's fantastic). As for city of God I think it's a classic.

I thought that Nolan's Insomnia was far better than the original. Then again I think the original is overstated, overrated garbage even before I saw Nolan's remake. Nolan added so many more layers and themes to it.

It's all a matter of taste my friend but I seem to remember that you interviewed Nolan and had a great interaction with him so you also might be a little biased there . Anyway, Pacino in Hooha mode, hamming it up was, once again to my taste, much less interesting and more predictable than Skasgard's haunted performance. As for Robin Williams he was wonderfully directed by Nolan and was superior than, I think, the swedish actor.
All in all I prefered the original (you shouldn't say it's garbage, you should say you didn't like it)but it is all very subjective and like I said the remake was pretty good too, which is very rarely the case.

Ya Pacino when he gets in HOOHA mode it really is a hit or miss whether or not his performance is good.

Absolutely, it is all a matter of taste. When I say garbage I mean that purely in my opinion as with all of my other comments. Yes, I suppose that because Nolan is my favorite (living.... Hitchcock gets top honors) director and based on my interactions with him, I could be a bit biased. But, as I said before, I saw the original long before Nolan came along and disliked it very much so I don't think it has a lot to do with Nolan, just comes to down to personal preference. Yes, it Pacino is a bit crazy performance wise I'll agree with you there, though it was one of the times that I thought his approach fit. Oh well, to each his own. :cwink:

Absolutely. He is a wonderful actor and I hope he gets another great part soon.

He is doing far better than DeNiro as of late. Pacino is wonderful in The Insider and Simone (which thought was very underrated).

I didn't see simone, I'll check it out, but I completely agree with you for the insider, but that was already a long time ago. I hear he has a new project with De Niro, so we'll see.

I didn't like Simone. I think he is a great actor and I really would want to see him do an over the top character. Catch us all by surprise.

nolan and crew seem to have taken it up a notch in this one and w/ the entire cast saying how intense and scary ledger is....will TDK get a pg-13 rating? and / or will editing done the first cut from an R to a pg-13 hurt the film?

there IS a rating thread around here somewhere. but it's buried

Nolan has always said that he directs his Bat-films to be PG-13. Nothing more, nothing less.

I heard there was a rumor they were going to splice in stock footage from porno films into the movie during the editing process, so who knows.
