The Dark Knight What Will TDK's Rating / Certificate Be?

I heard there was a rumor they were going to splice in stock footage from porno films into the movie during the editing process, so who knows.

NC-17 Batman movie? Hmmm

R

I like putting bombs in peoples chests and then seeing them light up like a christmas tree....HAHAHA!!!!

Actually PG-13, but trust me someone high up will come in and save this film from an R rating. We'll hear plenty of MPAA arguments, but will eventually get a hard PG-13.

Looks like the PG-13 thread got merged.

It's going to be as hardcore of a PG-13 film as can be reasonably made, which is OK.

I could go for an R rated Directors Cut on DVD, though.

There is going to be no R-rated DVD, because Nolan has already SAID NUMEROUS TIMES than any version of his Bat-films is going to be PG-13 with no cuts.

Um, where did I ever say R rated directors cut??? I didn't. Sock DID. Not once did I ever mention that.

What I said was that it would be a hardcore PG-13 pushing the boundaries and someone might step in and save it from becoming a possible R and the MPAA will report having problems with it and then we will get Nolan's hardcore film as PG-13.

It was reported that Spielberg stepped in and saved Disturbia from a rated R.

nah, it isn't necessary.
PG-13 is good enough.

I hope it gets a PG-13, but is like Live Free or Die Hard, or Bourne Ultimatum, where it seems to be really pushing the bounderies of an R.

Why does this topic keep coming up? There is no question: it will be PG-13, period. Even if Nolan was interested in an R-rated film, WB wouldn't allow it.

No, but WB would enforce it to the MPAA- trust me on this.

Months before the film comes out we will hear about arguments with the MPAA.

And someone will come in to save the day and Nolan's possible R readily becomes a PG-13 without a change made.

WB can always just call up Spielberg to help them out, god knows he's got MPAA under his control- which is AWESOME.

i wish the anime thing wasnt targeted to "tweens". if anything, that could have been rated R.

TDK is gonna be pg-13, it's a no brainer. but i think a director's cut rated R TDK is possible.

I agree, it will be PG-13, with the size of the budget, WB wants to make it's money back and no way would WB go for the R rating, it will be a very hard PG-13.

Actually, the people who did Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D, and "Program" from the Animatrix are handling the Batman anime. A buddy of mine (a professional animator) visited the studio, and was shown some of artwork. He said it was incredible.

We'll have to see what they put together. Batman doesn't need a whole lot of blood and guts, it just needs to be bad-assed.

Can´t we go a week on these boards without someone implying/demanding an R-rated Batman movie by WB? LET.GO.OF.IT. WB is not gonna do it, they sell toys out of Batman movies, they want kids and young teens to come... Plus there´re ten thousand ways a movie can be dark, adult and gritty without being R...
Thank you.

Begins didn't do a good job of showing how. If it carries on in the same style just with more killings it's not going to be a dark or adult film. But "adult" does have little to do with a ratings jump

begins didn't need to be super violent or anything, that's why. but this movie will have a lot more violence and sadistic activities. but it will be pg-13. we may have awhile where the ads say "this film is not yet rated," because they will probably need to edit shots and cut it slightly different for it to hit that perfect pg-13 (which is usually like, "you can have the guy's head explode, and we can see the explosion, but only 122 frames of brains flying. 123 is just gratuitous"). that's how they do it. so it will probably be as hard a pg-13 as you can get and then i would imagine there will be an unrated dvd that is just slightly more violent. it could even be just a few more frames of scenes we already saw. or if he doesn't have to compromise much, the dvd may just be exactly the same.

I mean to create a film with an adult tone you wouldn't just insert some blood or boobs, although I'd be fine with it. To me Begins had simplistically drawn characters with 2d motivations, wasn't much beyond Jack Palance hamming it up in Batman. None of the drama felt real, just there to relay the plot and join the setpieces together. Don't think it was dark or gritty, besides trying to explain a few things it followed a well worn formula with no ambiguity

oh. i thought you meant the rating had nothing to do with sex or violence. yeah i know an adult movie needs mature characters and motivations. depth in the characters, anguish, or whatever it is you're looking for. but with all that being said, i thought the bruce wayne and alfred relationship had some depth. and i think they established the wayne character fairly well. more through the acting than the script. but i think at least those two characters were a little more than 2 dimensional.

I might give you that, although the sentimental music kind of spoilt some of it. This time, Joker doesn't need a hammy reason for his plans, or much of a reason at all. If they get Dent right it'll be a huge leap from Begins by itself, plus there's less need for lazy speeches to get tonnes of exposition across. But with Goyer gone this is hopefully all solved in one fell swoop, and maybe Bruce won't be so glib about everything as people start suffering because of him. Would be great for him to face a hard choice, with unalterable consequences either way.

My guess is that he stops Dent killing Joker for maiming Rachel, then Joker is able to do something terrible because of that. Don't just want to see things get bad, then return to the way they were

yeah, i think in this movie we will see things get bad because of bad decisions from bruce/batman. and i think those things won't get repaired so easily. the nolans are much better writers than nolan. so think this script will be much better than begins. i expect a lot out of this movie. i hope i'm not expecting too much. i did like begins a lot though. seems like you were a little disappointed with it.
