What would you rather be? An octopus or a mermaid?

We were talking at work yesterday about world octopus day and a girl I work with said she wanted to be a mermaid for a school concert but she had to be an octopus instead. I said I would rather be an octopus and everyone gave that "haha, someday you'll learn what it means to be human" type laugh.

Here are my reasons...

1. Octopi can fit themselves into tiny holes and even walk on land for a little bit
2. I'm not taking my shirt off for anyone.

Which would you rather be?

Wait, for real? Because octopuses only live a few years at best. The Giant Pacific Octopus would be lucky to live for four years, and it dies after it mates.
