It only seemed like a few years ago, Marvel was cranking out specialized covers for their product, incorporating foil inserts on its covers. Full front and rear cover foils (Alpha/Omega X-Men), transparent covers, hologram attachments (Phalanx Covenant), black and white sketch covers with Color logo (Wolverine #75) and baseball cards are just to name a few.

This period seemed to be Marvel’s “Golden Age”, as the stories were more original, and plentiful. In addition, you felt like you were getting your money’s worth, just from the quality of the covers themselves.

We finally got tired of it. So they stopped.
